San Agustín Beach, Gran Canaria. A quiet family beach

03/01/2024 - Ruth González

La San Agustin beach It is one of the most touristy in Gran Canaria. It is located within the municipality of San Bartolomé de Tirajana, in the southern part of the island. Despite being a beach located within one of the tourist centers, it is quite quiet. In its surroundings there are several hotels, but most are small tourist apartments.

San Agustin Beach
San Agustin Beach

The San Agustín area is known for being the refuge during the winter months for many Nordics. On the other hand, it is the second residence for many Canarians during the summer months. Saint Augustine is one of the most beautiful beaches in Gran Canaria and below we are going to show you why.

San Agustín Beach, Gran Canaria

As we said, despite being a tourist beach, it is quite quiet and familiar. Its waters are usually calm, although sometimes it can be windy. The sand is golden, but also somewhat dark. San Agustín beach has practically all the services: showers, hammock rental, security service, toilets, etc.. Furthermore, throughout his 600 meters long there is a beautiful promenade walk from hotels and apartments. Also located on the same walk is the well-known El Capitan restaurant.

San Agustin Walk

San Agustín borders on one side with the Las Burras beach (direction Maspalomas) and with the El Pirata or Morro Besudo beach (address Las Palmas de Gran Canaria – City Life, History & Island Vibes). The difference is that to get to Las Burras there is a promenade that almost reaches as far as English beach. However, to reach the El Pirata Beach, although you can walk, it is not a walk by the sea, since you must first go up to the Balcony of San Agustín.

Maspalomas Soul Festival in San Agustín, Gran Canaria

Restaurants in San Agustin

In San Agustín there are several restaurants that we can recommend. One of them we have already mentioned before, is the El Capitan Restaurant. Here you can taste delicious canarian food and fresh fish with views of San Agustín beach.

Another well-known in the area is the Addio Mare restaurant. An Italian well known for its sirloin pizzas. This is located in the San Agustín shopping center, but they also make home deliveries and from their terrace they have views of the sea. These two are our favorites, although you also have the option of having something in the Balcón de San Agustín restaurant with views of the entire bay and the sunset, including the maspalomas beach.

If you are looking for more romantic options, we recommend the Gorbea restaurant, inside the Gloria Palace San Agustín hotel or the restaurant 928 Aroma Atlántico. Finally, it recently opened the Relax Beach Club restaurant, on the beachfront, inside the Beach Club hotel. Finally, many locals like the Chinese restaurant Canton, also inside the Beach Club hotel. We are not fans of Chinese food, but we mention it just in case…

Hotels in San Agustin

As we mentioned at the beginning, San Agustín is one of the most touristic areas of Gran Canaria. There is a wide range of apartments here, although there are several hotels that you should take into account. We recommend the hotel Paradisus by Meliá Gran Canaria (formerly Meliá Tamarindos). It is a five-star all-inclusive on the beachfront. Another option is the Gloria Palace San Agustín. The latter is more recommended if you budget is smaller or you don't want to stay on an all-inclusive basis, although it also offers that. We mention them below in case you want to take a look:

Regarding the offer of apartments in San Agustín, we recommend two spectacular places. The Buganvilla Apartments, with views of the sea and the entire coast of Maspalomas. We also suggest the Deva Beach Apartments which we show you below. Take a look!

About Ruth González

Hello! I am RuthTourism expert, Canary Islander and traveler. Although I write, Local Guide Gran Canaria has two engines: Jorge (my partner) and I.

Here we merge my academic training (Graduate and Master in Tourism) with his mountain experience (MTB) to show you the real Gran Canaria: trails, landscapes and local off-the-beaten-path gastronomy.

Besides being your hosts on the island, we share guides to our trips so you can plan your getaways with the confidence of Follow routes that are 100% validated by us.

If we're not traveling or "tasting" restaurants, look for us in the mountains with our fur babies, Silver and Plata.

Shall we discover (and devour) the world together?
