How to get from Gran Canaria to another Canary Island?

01/07/2023 - Ruth González

In this entry we are going to tell you how to go Gran Canaria to another Canary Island. If you have more than a week of vacation, you have the option of taking a jump to another island in the Archipelago. Below we tell you the transfer options and a little about each island, we have been to all of them already :)

How to get from Gran Canaria to another Canary island by boat

The closest islands to Gran Canaria are Tenerife and Fuerteventura and there are two maritime lines that can take you to them, as well as to the rest of the Canary Islands. In addition, taking your rental car to another island is possible. The two companies that operate in the Canary Islands are Fred Olsen and Naviera Armas. In the previous photograph we see the Fred Olsen ferry leaving from the town of Agaete heading to Tenerife.

On the contrary, if you want to know how to get from Gran Canaria to another island and save time, we recommend the plane. Currently, there are two airlines that operate between islands: Binter and Canary Fly. Furthermore, You can reach all the Canary Islands by plane from Gran Canaria. Well, except La Graciosa. For one faster search for schedules and price comparison of both companies, We recommend you use a vu search engineelos like SkyScanner.

On the other hand, a question that you will surely ask yourself is: How to get from Gran Canaria to La Gomera? Or, how to get from Gran Canaria to El Hierro? There is no direct boat between these islands, nor with La Palma and La Graciosa.. Therefore, you would have to take several boats and travel by car within the same island to reach another port. A little complicated if you don't have a month of vacation.

Consequently, the best option to travel to the most distant islands from Gran Canaria would be by plane. The distance between choosing to fly to one Canary Island or another will be just 10-15 minutes. As we said, the only exception is La Graciosa. You have to get to this one by boat because it doesn't have an airport.

How to get from Gran Canaria to another Canary Island

Once you know how to get from Gran Canaria to another Canary Island, it is difficult to recommend you. which is the best island in the Canary Islands exchange for you. Below you have a brief description of each one, but if you want more details, better click on the previous link.

✔ How to get from Gran Canaria to Tenerife

Tenerife can be reached both by direct boat and by plane. It is the most populated island and largest in area. We can say that on this island It is the one with the best gastronomic offer, since it has various restaurants with Michelin stars and there is a network of guachinches where to eat local food at a very good price. Tenerife has everything: mountains, gastronomy, nature, beaches... They even have up to the highest peak in Spain, El Teide with 3.178 m within the Las Cañadas National Park. If we had to "criticize" something about Tenerife it could be its beaches, given that on other islands they are considered better.

One of the biggest attractions of Tenerife is the Loro Parque theme park, considered the best zoo in the world. He too whale watching. We leave you with a complete post about what to see in Tenerife.

✔ How to get from Gran Canaria to Fuerteventura and Lobos

Like Tenerife, Fuerteventura can be reached both by direct boat (about two hours from Las Palmas de GC to Morro Jable), and by plane. It is the second largest island in the archipelago. It stands out for its kilometer-long beaches that have nothing to envy those of the Caribbean. If you want to know more about this island, we have a super complete post about what to see in Fuerteventura.

Of course, it is a fairly windy island and that is why it is a paradise for windsurfing and kite surfing. To the north of Fuerteventura there is a hidden gem, it is the islet of lobos. We leave you here the link of the boat that leaves from the north of Fuerteventura to spend the day. You cannot spend the night in Lobos and there is only one Chiringuito to eat, the one in Antoñito the lighthouse keeper.

✔ How to get from Gran Canaria to Lanzarote

Lanzarote can also be reached by plane and boat. Many islanders agree that Lanzarote is the most beautiful island in the Canary Islands. Because? Well, because it has spectacular beaches and coves, because the island is perfectly maintained and for its volcanic and unique character. It also stands out for the quality of its wines.

In Lanzarote you can visit the Timanfaya National Park with more than 25 volcanoes inside and the Jameos del Agua. Quite an experience to understand how the Canary Islands were formed. We also recommend you visit the Foundation of the Canarian artist César Manrique. This Conejero was especially concerned about the environmental preservation of Lanzarote. And so he has remained until then with his little white houses in each town.

✔ How to get to La Graciosa from Gran Canaria

La Graciosa is the eighth island of the Archipelago, it is the Canarian Caribbean. Plus, it's the smallest. Until 2018 it was not considered an island, but rather an islet due to its small size. To get to La Graciosa you must first arrive in Lanzarote and then drive to the port of Órzola, from where the ship.

The ferry ride is not very long, since the islands are very close, but it can be "hectic." As for the charms of La Graciosa, We stay with its people, its gastronomy, its virgin beaches, its white houses, its tranquility…In the same way, you should know that In La Graciosa the few cars that there are drive on dirt and sand, there are no paved roads.

✔ How to get from Gran Canaria to La Gomera

To go from Gran Canaria to La Gomera we recommend the plane. This island It is one of the smallest, but due to its mountainous nature, full of ravines, it is difficult to get from one point on the island to another. It is not very populated, nor exploited for tourism, being a paradise to disconnect. In this article we tell you what to see in La Gomera and many tips if you want to discover it on your own.

If you like trails surrounded by nature, this could be your island. In the center of La Gomera is the Garajonay National Park (World Heritage Site) y there is a hiking excursion to find out. Here water flows through streams and its forests are green all year round. We also recommend you visit Great King Valley. A town where a hippie commune is established. Most of the beaches on this island are pebble or black sand.

✔ How to get from Gran Canaria to El Hierro

You can also reach El Hierro by direct flight from Gran Canaria. Let's say that this island is a mixture of La Gomera, Lanzarote and Tenerife. Because? Well because it is very volcanic, too. It has numerous cliffs and most of its beaches are black sand or pebbles.. It is characterized by having many Natural pool-type bathing areas with sea water. It also has a beautiful pine forest in the interior of the island. But if there is something that stands out in El Hierro, it is its idyllic seabed.

The Verodal

You will also eat very well here. You must try the fresh local fish in La Restinga, the tropical pineapple from El Hierro and the quesadillas. Like La Gomera, it is a sparsely populated and not overcrowded island. It is the second smallest after La Graciosa. We encourage you to take a look at our article on what to see in El Hierro which includes restaurants.

✔ How to get from Gran Canaria to La Palma

We ended up on the island of La Palma and that doesn't make it the least beautiful. In fact they call it "the beautiful island." La Palma is undoubtedly the greenest island in the Canary Islands. The paradise of trails and good food. It also has spectacular volcanic and coastal areas. In general, the beaches of La Palma and the western islands are more black sand and bolos or callaos (as we say in the Canary Islands). Unlike the eastern ones, which have kilometer-long beaches and blonde sand. We recommend the trail of Roque de Los Muchachos and La Caldera de Taburiente, as well as visiting the city of Santa Cruz de La Palma.

If not, you can always return to the Islands, You already know that in Gran Canaria there is also a lot to see and do as we tell you in our Gran Canaria Local Guides. Hello Pilar!!! Thank you very much for your comment! The truth is that yes, only two companies operate between islands, that's what it is... you can try going by boat, it's the only thing I can think of... Do you already know what to visit in Gran Canaria? How many days will they be on each island? A hug
