If you're looking for What to see in TiranaIn this guide, we share the places we visited in Albania's capital, where we tried traditional food, and our tips for planning your stop. Skanderbeg Square, Bunk'Art 2, the New Bazaar and the Pyramid of Tirana They cover a good part of the route, which you can easily walk if you're staying in the city center. Here's our opinion: To see the main sights of the center, a long afternoon was enough for us.We wouldn't extend our stay if it meant taking days away from other places like the Albanian rivieraHowever, if you have more time, we've also included other places to visit to fill one or two days in Tirana. Let's go!

This visit was part of our trip in September 2026. If you're still planning your trip around the country, here's our guide to it. What to see in Albania on your ownwith itinerary, maps and accommodations.
✔️ What to see in Tirana, Albania
We have ordered the places to visit in Tirana giving priority to those we would include on a first visit. It is not necessarily the order of the tour.
1. Skanderbeg Square, Et'hem Bey Mosque and Clock Tower
La Skanderbeg Square This is the point from which we would begin exploring Tirana. Several of its most famous buildings are concentrated here, with a mix of Ottoman architecture, communist-era buildings, and modern towers that perfectly illustrates the city's contrasts. On one side, you have the Et'hem Bey Mosque and the Clock Tower, two of the most recognizable monuments in the center.

The Palace of Culture and the National Historical Museum are also located nearby. During our visit the museum was under constructionSo we wouldn't include it as a guaranteed entry without first checking if it has reopened. Another building that caught our attention is the ultra-modern with the face of Skanderbeg.
2. Bunk'Art 2, the bunker to visit in the center of Tirana
If we had to choose one Cultural things to do in Tiranawe would prioritize Bunk'Art 2It's very close to the square and allows you to delve into Albania's recent history inside a former underground shelter. The museum covers the history of the police and the Sigurimi, the secret police during the dictatorshipThroughout your journey, you'll see bunkers in cities, on beaches, and in the mountains. They were built during Enver Hoxha's regime in response to fears of invasion. Visiting one that's been converted into a museum helps you understand why these structures are such an integral part of the Albanian landscape.

We pay about €10 per person in September 2026Please note that the tour is underground, with enclosed corridors and rooms: If you are claustrophobic, consider beforehand whether you will feel comfortableAnd don't confuse it with Bunk'Art 1, which is outside the center and we explain it below.
3. Pazari i Ri, the New Bazaar of Tirana
El New Bazaar of Tirana, Pazari i RiThis is another stop we would include in the walk. We found stalls selling souvenirs, handicrafts, wooden objects and antiques, as well as Albanian gastronomic products such as olive oil, dried figs, spices, etc. However, there are also quite a few tourist souvenirs and counterfeit goods: don't expect everything you see to be local crafts.

We approached before nightfall and it seemed like an area with a nice atmosphere to have a look around. Part of the market is coveredWhich is useful if you happen to have a rainy day like we did. You can combine the visit with a coffee or a stop at one of the nearby restaurants.
4. Pyramid of Tirana and views of the center
La Pyramid of Tirana It is one of the most curious buildings in the capital. Originally built as a museum dedicated to Enver Hoxha, it has now been transformed into a cultural and educational space. What is most striking are the exterior stairs that you can climb to get panoramic views of the Albanian capital from above.

It's a stop that fits perfectly on the way to Blloku. building rehabilitation by MVRDV Its current appearance is explained by the fact that the structure was preserved, and stairs and new spaces were added. If you appreciate architecture, this offers a striking contrast to the monuments in the square.
5. Tirana Castle and Murat Toptani pedestrian street
Another area you can add to the walk is the Tirana Castle, known as Kalaja e Tiranës, Together with the Murat Toptani pedestrian street. We wouldn't describe it as a large, isolated fortress: the site combines fortification remains with shops and commercial spaces. It works better as a central stop for a stroll between visits, rather than a separate excursion.

6. Reja, the Cloud of Tirana
Grid It means "the cloud" in Albanian. This white structure was designed by the Japanese architect. Sou FujimotoIt is located next to the National Art Gallery and functions as a cultural space. During our visit There was a photography exhibition. We enjoyed watching it illuminated at nightIt's a short stop to round off the walk, not a visit that would warrant a major detour.

7. Blloku, restaurants, cafes and nightlife
bloc It's one of the areas to aim for if you're looking for What to do in Tirana at nightBut its past is very different from the atmosphere you'll find today. During the dictatorship, it was a neighborhood reserved for the communist elite, closed to the rest of the populationEnver Hoxha lived here, and his former residence is still preserved. Today we find Cafes, restaurants, shops and more atmosphere as evening fallsWe think it's a great way to end the day: strolling around, browsing, and choosing where to sit down for dinner or drinks after exploring the city center.
8. Tanners' Bridge
El Tanners' BridgeThe Ura e Tabakëve, or House of the Tobacco, is a small stone building of Ottoman origin that you can include when exploring this part of the city. We would leave it as a short stopEspecially if you're already exploring the bazaar and city center. If you're short on time, we'd prioritize the visits mentioned earlier.

9. Traditional Albanian cuisine in Jarna
One of the Things to do in Tirana It's about enjoying traditional Albanian cuisine and in Jarna Traditional Restaurant We were right. We also got to see them preparing one of the house specialties over an open fire: the Albanian lakrorIt has a terrace, although we ate inside because the weather was rainy. We paid approximately €20 per personBut be warned: we ordered more than we needed to try several dishes, and we figured there was enough food for three. You can see all the typical dishes we tried in the video at the end.

10. Free tour of Tirana in Spanish
Si Do you prefer to explore the city center with explanations from a guide?, you can rate a Free tour of Tirana in SpanishIt's an alternative to exploring on your own: check the itinerary and schedule before booking. 🌳 More places to see in Tirana (if you have more time)
In addition to the stops mentioned above, there are other places you might want to consider if you have more time. We've included them as options to extend your visit, not as personal experiences, since we only spent one day in Tirana (half an afternoon and half a morning).
- Tirana's Great Park and artificial lake: Also known as Grand Park or Parku i Madh, it surrounds the city's artificial lake. It's an option to add a walk through green areas and slow down after the center. Given its location, you might consider combining it with Blloku.
- Tirana Cable Car: If you're looking for What to see in the area around Tiranathe cable car Daily Express It ascends from the outskirts towards Mount Dajti. However, this requires taking into account the journey to the lower station, the ascent, and the return.
- Bunk'Art 1 (on the outskirts of Tirana): It is a former nuclear shelter converted into a historical and artistic museum, with spaces that help to understand the political and military history of the country.
Based on location, you can study combine Bunk'Art 1 and the Dajti cable car at the same exit. That doesn't mean they'll both fit at any time: check the opening times in the official Bunk'Art website and calculate the transfers. For a short visit to the center, we chose Bunk'Art 2.

💡 Tips for traveling to Tirana independently
- Traffic and parking: We found it difficult to park. We decided to leave the car at our accommodation and explore the city center on foot.
- Airport transfer: Leave with plenty of time. We encountered a lot of traffic and roadworks; we wouldn't calculate the departure time based solely on the distance.
- Cash: Save some leks until the last day. We had a problem where we couldn't pay for a bottle of water with a card or with the euro coins we had.
- Walking at night: Pay attention to the pavement. We saw potholes and construction zones, even on main streets.
- Internet: Check your carrier's terms and conditions before activating data. We use an eSIM for maps and to communicate with the accommodation, for example, when requesting the garage keys.
