La Playa del Pirata, located in the south of the island, is one of the coves in Gran Canaria that we like the most. This is probably because it is quite hidden, there is hardly any cover and, therefore, it is ideal for disconnect. As well is known as the Morro Besudo beach, as it hides behind this cliff or morro in the south of Gran Canaria. Next, we will tell you how to get to El Pirata beach and its main characteristics. Let's go!
Playa del Pirata, Gran Canaria
We find this southern beach of golden sand between the Balcón de San Agustín, at the top of the San Agustin beach and you can also come walking from its other neighbor, the Playa del Águila. If you come from Playa del Águila, On the walk there are different coves through which you can descend using stairs. Some have more pebbles than others and when the tide goes out they all connect each other forming a large beach.
Keep in mind that in On El Pirata beach you will not find services (showers, hammocks, toilets, etc.), nor is there security. The closest shopping area is a few steps towards Águila Beach. As a general rule it is a quiet cove with moderate waves, just be a little careful with the currents and keep in mind that Both accesses are by stairs.
As you can see, Despite its natural beauty, this area of the island is less crowded (except in the summer months). It is probably due to the absence of services as we indicated. However, for us it is one of the best beaches in the south of Gran Canaria, away from the large tourist resorts.
How to get to El Pirata beach, Gran Canaria
As we told you, there are two ways to get to Playa del Pirata, but neither of them is accessible for people with reduced mobility, since there are stairs on both sides. On the other hand, Access with a baby stroller is also difficult, unless there is a strong man in the family.
- How to get there from the Balcón de San Agustín. You can enter the hotel in your GPS Abora Interclub Atlantic and park around the hotel. Once there you must go down some small stairs towards the sea. Next, You will find a path like the one we show you below. If you're lost, ask someone you see in the area.
As you can see in the next photo, if you continue along the seaside promenade, you will reach the stairs shown below. These face directly onto the beach. There are quite a few steps, so you better not forget anything in the car :)
- How to get there from Playa del Águila. Enter the apartments Marinasol. Once you have passed them, you will see some stairs going down to the left. This sign shows the beach in question and says "the beach" and "zum strand" in German. However, keep in mind that parking is limited.
Later you must advance a little along this path until you reach the promenade next to the sea. Here you will see several coves with different descents. Choose the one you like the most.
There is a third access from Águila beach if you are looking for the parking lot in front of the La Perla Bungalows. From here you will reach the cove that is further north, but it is not connected by the promenade with the rest of the coves. So, either you wait for the tide to go out, or you will have to go around all the apartment complexes.

Do you know when the beach access works will finish?
Ruth & Jorge says
Hello Ana… the truth is that no, I didn't know that they were still under construction!! what a burden!
Juan says
Dogs should be prohibited on the beaches, they are animals with responsible owners (much better, of course) or without them that shit, piss and attack with their canine instincts that are not human as people believe and bother other users. A dog is...a dog.

Just like you like to enjoy a day with your family, I like to enjoy some time on the beach with my furry friend. Humans (children) shit, piss, cry, throw sand at you, leave waste, etc.

Nothing calm!!!!
There are more dogs than people, and these have not received the slightest education from their owners.
They roll around in your towel, they throw themselves on you, they pee and so on, wherever they want, they don't stop barking, in short... with irresponsible owners, who don't understand the meaning of respect for others.
Silence is conspicuous by its absence…
They play music next to you, and it seems like headphones don't exist, because whether you like it or not, you are forced to listen to it if you don't want to get into trouble...
I don't know about a "quiet" beach...
Lots of boys and girls, to whom the police do not appear after calling several people on several occasions...
Access to the beach is a shame!!!!, broken stairs, dangerously high handrails that do not exist, rubbish that people do not take away, sand strewn with cigarette butts, the town council responsible for the place ignores the damage, which has been published in the media and on social networks.
👉 Visit it yourself and post your opinion about it…….
Local Guide Gran Canaria says
Hello Teresa! How sad to read what you say, the truth is that it is clear that the fault of all this lies with the people, not with the dogs, because those who must educate them are their owners. What a shame, the truth is that we don't remember it that way the times we have gone, but it is good to have your comment here as a testimony for those who want to visit it. Did you go on a weekend? Regarding the access conditions, we do not understand why the San Bartolomé City Council has not yet repaired those stairs and railings 🙁 A hug, Ruth

If all the beaches continue to be advertised in this way there will be nowhere to go in peace
