Huaqiangbei: the world's largest electronics market
Huaqiangbei (华强北) It is, without a doubt, the world's largest electronics marketWe are talking about an entire district made up of dozens of multi-story shopping malls Spread along both sides of an endless avenue, you can find literally any electronic component imaginable: from phone accessories to drones, cameras, or smartphones assembled from scratch. It's known as the "Silicon Valley of hardware" and is a must-see even if you don't intend to buy anything; the atmosphere alone makes it well worth the trip. In fact, for many, it's the first stop to make in Shenzhen.

💡 Tip Local Guide: There are dozens of shopping centers and it's easy to get overwhelmed, so we've listed the main ones and what you'll find in each so you don't get lost:
- SEG Plaza or SEGCOM: The most iconic skyscraper in the market. It's the kingdom of the mobile accessoriesCases, cables, power banks, etc. There are also other small household appliances such as hair dryers, fans, electric toothbrushes, etc.
- Yuanwang Digital Mall: the biggest for branded mobile phones and their accessories, as well as cameras and security products (surveillance cameras, etc.). Here you can also buy refurbished second-hand phones and have yours repaired.
Talent Park: drone food and the "AirPods" plaza
Area Houhai (后海)Located in the Nanshan district, this is one of Shenzhen's must-see attractions and perfectly encapsulates the city's futuristic spirit. It offers several interconnected sites that you can easily visit together in a single morning, starting with the... Talent Park (人才公园)A huge park surrounding an artificial lake, where you can feel a real local vibe with people jogging, families, and office workers relaxing by the water. But the most amazing thing about the park is that here You can order your food and have it delivered by a drone. even an automated collection station: one of those experiences that you can only find in Shenzhen and that we show you in the video.

Just a few steps from the park you have one of the newest and most viral visits of the city: the Shenzhen Bay Culture Square (深圳湾文化广场), a newly opened cultural complex (it opened in November 2025) designed by the prestigious studio MAD ArchitectsMany have nicknamed him the "AirPod Square"Because its stone-shaped buildings resemble Apple headphones. Inside one of these charming "AirPods" is a contemporary design museum with several art galleries. Tickets are sold by area and are inexpensive (the permanent exhibitions ticket costs around [price missing]). €2,5 per adult), so it's worth going in if you like art and architecture.

Y Just below the AirPods plaza you'll find another very curious and photogenic stop: the Pink Streeta street completely dyed pink where the world's only pink McDonald'sA magnet for photography enthusiasts and a great example of Shenzhen's kitschy and fun side. As you can see, in this same Houhai area, you can find a park, drone food, art, and the most viral McDonald's on the planet.

Robotaxi: hop in a driverless taxi in Shenzhen
One of the experiences that You absolutely have to live in Shenzhen It's getting on a robotaxi (driverless taxi)The city is one of the world's pioneers in autonomous vehicles, but beware: You can't pick it up just anywhere in the citybut only in designated areas with designated stops. One of those areas is right in the area surrounding Talent Parkso it's very easy to combine it with the previous visit.

We got it with the app Pony.ai, which works within WeChatWe're letting you know that it's everything in Chinese and we found it impossible to manage even with the translator, so A local person helped us. Order it. If you can, ask someone for help setting it up the first time. The feeling of being in a car with no one at the wheel is very strange and futuristic. We'll show you in the video!
The view of the Shenzhen skyline from Lianhuashan Park
For us, this is a visit It's essential and we'd put it in the Top 3 of Shenzhen. The Lianhuashan Park (莲花山公园) It is a landscaped hill in the very center crowned by the Deng Xiaoping statueAnd from right this statue you have a view brutal to the imposing Civic Center and Futian's skyscraper skyline. Key tip: Go up at least 1 hour before 22:00 PMBecause from that time onwards the city lights go out and you miss out on the best photo.

💡 Tip Local Guide: After coming down the hill, we recommend taking a stroll through the Civic Center Square to see it up close and understand its immensity. At night, you can also listen to the croaking of bullfrogs Among the gardens: a fascinating contrast between nature and China's most futuristic city. We'll show you in our video at the end!
Gangxia North: Shenzhen's most futuristic subway station
Yes, you read that right: a Metro station It's one of Shenzhen's most viral attractions. Gangxia North Station (岗厦北)Located in the Futian district, it looks like something out of a science fiction film and has become a magnet for photography enthusiasts. enormous central atrium, the skylights and their aesthetics cyberpunk This makes it one of the most beautiful subway stations in China, according to many. In fact, it's also called the "Eye of Shenzhen"We went at night, but we think it's impressive during the day when the light passes through that enormous "eye".

💡 Tip Local Guide: To take photos, you don't have to pay for the metro; just ask the controller in the area and they will open the door for you to enter.
UpperHills: robot shows, luxury and technology everywhere
UpperHills (深业上城) It's one of those places that perfectly encapsulates what Shenzhen is, and also one of the most exclusive areas of the cityThe most curious thing is its architecture: the entire complex is built on top of another shopping centerforming two "artificial mountains" of buildings that They are connected by elevated pedestrian walkways to two parksone on each side (Lianhuashan Park to the west and Bijiashan Park to the east). It is a luxury complex where technology and design blend in every corner, with high-end hotels like the Mandarin OrientalBut what impressed us most was their storesYou don't come here to buy things, you come to be amazed. Each shop is a authentic museumwith spectacular designs and setups that we hadn't seen anywhere else, from fashion firms y technology flagships (like Xiaomi's) until amazing pet stores.

The area is also a paradise for lovers of coffee and designer cafes. don't miss the Starbucks Book (the brand's premium Starbucks, recognizable by their logo with the "R"), which when we went was fully decorated with rosesAnd as a proper futuristic corner of Shenzhen, here you can also watch robot shows, charge your mobile phone at a bank (next to the Muji hotel) on the street and there are even drone collection pointAs we showed you in the video, it's the ideal plan to understand where the future is headed... and to treat yourself.

OH Bay: The Giant Ferris Wheel and the Viral Library
OH Bay (欢乐港湾, "Happy Harbor")In the Bao'an district, this bay area is perfect for an evening out. It also boasts two other major Shenzhen attractions, though if you're short on time, they aren't essential in our opinion.
- The “Bay Glory” Ferris Wheel (湾区之光): A spectacular 128-meter Ferris wheel next to the bay. From the top you have views of the famous viral bridge that passes underwater, one of the most impressive images of the city.

- The Viral Library (Zhongshuge, 钟书阁): A bookstore that has become famous on social media for its spectacular spiral staircase of shelves, with mirrored displays that make it seem endless. But be warned: Many of the books on the highest shelves are painted. But the visual effect is just as striking for photos. The surrounding shopping center is fairly ordinary, so beyond the Ferris wheel, it's not worth coming all the way here just for the library; but if you're already in Oh Bay, it's a worthwhile stop.

OCT-LOFT: a creative neighborhood to visit in Shenzhen
In the Nanshan district is located OCT-LOFT (华侨城创意文化园), a former industrial area converted into the the city's most creative and alternative neighborhoodIt's Shenzhen's most artistic side: repurposed warehouses that now house designer cafes, art galleries, independent shops and cultural spacesThe perfect plan for a leisurely stroll and to disconnect from the futuristic hustle and bustle.

Where to eat in Shenzhen: Cantonese hotpot and dim sum
Shenzhen is not just about technology: you're right in the heart of it all. Guangdong provinceSo you have to take advantage of this opportunity to try their Cantonese gastronomyThe most famous in all of China. These are our two recommendations:
- Dim sum at Dian Dou De (点都德): another of the Things to do in Shenzhen It's about trying authentic Cantonese cuisine in dim sum format. Steamed buns, dumplings… the best way to start (or end) the day like a local. We went to one of the Most legendary restaurants open since 1933: Dian Dou De. There are several in Canton and we went to the one near Huaqiangbei.

- Beef Hotpot at Chaoshan Damu Beef Hot Pot Restaurant: One of Shenzhen's most famous beef hotpots, with several locations throughout the city. The broth and the fresh cuts of beef are spectacular. A truly local experience that we highly recommend. We can differentiate it from the Hot Pot of Chongqing The difference here is that it's not as spicy and the meat is cut very thin (it's left for a maximum of 8 seconds).

More things to see and do in Shenzhen
Shenzhen is huge and we're focusing on its more technological and viral side, but if you have more time, there are other options. Must-see attractions in Shenzhen that we didn't mention and that we highly recommend:
- DJI flagship store in OCT Bay (欢乐海岸): If you're into drones, this large leisure and shopping complex houses the flagship store of DJI, the world's leading manufacturer based in Shenzhen. A great excuse to explore the area.
- Window of the World (世界之窗): A theme park with over 130 scale replicas of the world's most famous monuments, from the Eiffel Tower to the Taj Mahal. A unique and very photogenic outing, especially with its nighttime show.
- Shenzhen Bay Park (深圳湾公园): The city's long, peaceful waterfront promenade is perfect for walking or cycling. Here you can see locals practicing tai chi and, on clear days, the Hong Kong skyline across the bay.
- Ping An Finance Center: Shenzhen's tallest skyscraper (and one of the tallest in the world), with a panoramic observation deck and shopping mall at its base. It's located in the Futian CBD, the area where the skyscrapers put on their weekend light shows.

Where to stay in Shenzhen: our hotel
We stayed in the Futian area, which allowed us to walk to Huaqiangbei, and it was a great decision. What we loved most was the size of the roomVery spacious and comfortable. Furthermore, There was a washing machine inside the room.Perfect for us, since we travel light and do laundry along the way. It also had a rooftop pool, which was a welcome treat on hot days. delicious breakfast To start the day with energy. Highly recommended if you're looking for comfort and a good location.
