In this entry we are going to talk to you about a bike route through the Arco del Coronadero, in the south of Gran Canaria. It is a circular route that starts from Saint Augustine, The track is made up of two "loops". One that goes towards the Arco de Coronadero and another that runs through the heights of San Agustín. We recommend that you start the route at Arco del Coronadero and go early, as it is a very popular place and is usually busy.
The Arco del Coronadero by bike
If you follow the track, You will begin by going up a winding dirt track that runs near a dam and a ravine with spectacular views. At one point on the route, you have to leave the track to enter a rocky path. At a certain point you can leave the path on foot to visit the famous Arco del Coronadero.

At the top of the Arco del Coronadero you can have some very beautiful views. But you have to be careful because it cannot be seen from the trail, look at the track to know when to leave and not miss this wonder.
It is important that You go up the track that passes by the dam and go down the path that passes near the cement plant (as it appears on the track). If you do it the other way around, you will hardly be able to go up on a bicycle and you will have to walk.
Second loop: the heights of San Agustín
The second loop of this track starts at Eagle Beach bordering the coast, then ascends along a rocky path that becomes a track. Its arid landscapes are reminiscent of the Wild West, quite an experience.
What bike is the most recommended to do the Arco del Coronadero circular route?
Although we did it with a Gravel Bike and 40C wheels, it would really be more comfortable to go with a short-travel XC double bike or a hardtail XC with front suspension. There are some very rocky downhill areas where this type of bike would help you.
Physically, if you go easy, a novice cyclist can do it without problem. Conversely, technically you will have to get off the bike on some ups and downs.
