La Playa Montaña Arena is one of the few virgin beaches in Gran Canaria. Despite being located in the south, it is little known by tourists. On the contrary, it is usually very frequented by residents of the island. The good thing about this beach is that since it is not so accessible, it is not so crowded. Furthermore, you will verify that it is a spectacular beach for its crystal-clear waters, fine toasted sand and perfect for disconnecting.
In Montaña Arena you can…
- …do nudism
- …bring dogs (educated dogs and owners please)
- …to camp. It's not really allowed, but it's not controlled. Please take all your trash away.
- …play paddle tennis and other sports like soccer (especially at low tide)
In Montaña Arena there is no…
- …coverage!!!
- …public toilets
- …sale of food and drinks (sometimes a man passes by selling ice cream)
- …bad roll
- …surveillance
- …umbrellas and hammocks
We can say that It is not a recommended beach to go with children., since access is not so easy to be loaded with gear, in addition to children. Likewise, as it is a dog beach, you won't be completely calm either, especially if your children are still very young. However, it does not mean that you cannot go with children, in fact we have seen children, but other beaches may be better like those in Maspalomas, The pits o Mogán. Still, for us it is one of the best beaches in Gran Canaria and what we recommend you do nudism in Gran Canaria.
Please note that During the summer it is quite busy and can be dirtier because of the campers who spend their holidays there. We always recommend that you visit it from October to June and in summer avoid weekends.
How to Get to Arena Mountain
To get to Montaña Arena advance along the coastal road from Pasito Blanco towards The Haystack (GC-500). You will pass by the access to Pasito de Bea beach, also called Playa de las Mujeres. The next dirt road access you see is Montaña Arena. The parking lot is dirt with quite a few potholes, so we recommend that you park in the area of the main road unless you have an SUV.
Once you have parked, continue walking towards the sea. Upon arrival we find the Las Carpinteras beach. If we follow a small path that runs along the coast looking to the left (looking at the sea), we will reach Montaña Arena beach.
Although this part of the road cannot be seen very well, access is not so easy in some areas. Therefore, we recommend that you Don't be overloaded and wear appropriate footwear. However, it's just a 10/15 minute walk and you've got it. From the path to Montaña Arena beach, you will have spectacular views of the Las Carpinteras beach with the cement factory in the background.
Likewise, you can also rent a kayaking in Gran Canaria in the El Pajar area and reach Montaña Arena by paddling.
This is one of the activities in Gran Canaria that we like the most, since it passes through many virgin coves on the island.
Low tide and high tide
The beach will be approximately 300 meters long, but when the tide goes out it is very pleasant to take round trips from one end to the other, play paddle tennis, etc. As you can see below, It is not usually a crowded beach and is perfect for camping. Of course, when the tide is high the water almost reaches the mountain, so you should place your hut as close to the mountain as possible.
Do not forget to take enough food and drink to get through the day and remember… use sunscreen! Finally, if you want to discover more places like this in Gran Canaria, you can't miss our guides. Also restaurants!

Hello, do you know if it is allowed to make barbecues?
Thank you.
Local Guide Gran Canaria says
Hello! The truth is that I don't know, but just out of respect for the environment and others, I wouldn't do it...
nauzet says
Is it totally safe to camp without anything happening? In a seprona, civil guard or similar plan? Thank you
Local Guide Gran Canaria says
Hello Nauzet! No, it is really prohibited… Greetings

I find it shameful that there is little respect for nature, such a beautiful beach and that it is used as a dumping ground for campers with containers like there are.
Local Guide Gran Canaria says
Hello Jesus, the truth is that yes. Unfortunately it doesn't just happen on the beaches, the mountains are full of garbage. I don't understand how they don't do something as simple as taking your trash home. It is outrageous!
