Today we’re going to show you a route to do in Mountain Bike in Firgas. This circular is quite unknown, for not going through any trail for which an MTB competition has been done.
Los Chorros – Laguna de Valleseco – Zumacal – Agua de Firgas – Azuaje ravine – Firgas trails – Los Chorros
On the day we did this route it was raining cats and dogs. There was a lot of mud and it took a little longer than normal. It took us 2 hours and 35 minutes to travel the 22 km with 850m of altitude difference. We recommend Enduro or All Mountain bike. Although depending on your level, you could do it even with an XC bike, with care in some technical areas along the roads. We would rate this route as medium technical level.
Departure from Los Chorros restaurant
First, in the restaurant Los Chorros, you have to enter a path that goes down from behind and start to enter in a wooded area with red earth that is quite sticky, to climb a broken and complicated slope if it is muddy. Then you arrive at El Zumacal entrance, where you have to go up through the main road a few hundred meters. Then you will have to leave the road on the left.
The entrance to the path is practically invisible. It is about going down the left of a metal fence to what looks like a water channel. You will immediately be in a “small jungle” very similar to the Island of La Palma. Beautiful area to walk, go by bike … and for down hill. Although in this case you will go up. Probably you will have to carry the bike and help your friends to climb the mounts.
You will have to follow the trail to the right, leveling with small up and down slopes. Until you have to climb some concrete cement stairs, after going through some houses that will take you to the Recreation Area of La Laguna de Valleseco.
The down hill starts
Passed the Laguna de Valleseco by a dirt track that is behind, you will find the exit of a road that has a signal to go down to the Las Madres ravine. These first curves that link with the part which is similar to La Palma island, already advance that you are going to have fun.
After these curves and spending a few hundred meters on asphalt, you will find an entrance with a curious handmade sign that marks the entrance to El Camino (the way). One of the best descents to do with your mountain bike in Firgas.
The down hill of La Palma in Gran Canaria
This trail is incredible. You will enjoy the bike a lot. It is narrow and steep. It looks like a jungle. It’s usually full of vegetation, but if you get it clean as is the case, it’s amazing. Dry or wet it can be descended very well, because its land drains a lot and afforestation means that the rains do not fall hard on the ground.
After this enjoyment, you have to continue down the road that you will find until you reach the village of Firgas. Near this point, the track will go a bit to the right. Because we had to change the way due to a traffic accident. However, you should continue forward until you reach Firgas.
Down hill to Azuaje ravine
It is another mythical descent of the area to do with your mountain bike in Firgas with a multitude of sharp curves and the occasional technical area. Special care must be taken when passing through a metal pipe if the ground is wet.
There are parts in which you can stop to enjoy the viewpoints that overlook the Azuaje ravine. Although with the fun of the trail, when you realize you will be at the bottom of the ravine, reaching the baths of Azuaje.
From here, it only remains to go up to the town by road. Once in Firgas, you will ride through the center next to its beautiful fountains. Near the cemetery you must get out of the way to climb some dirt trails that skirt the general road at times. Barely touching the asphalt, you will arrive at Los Chorros restaurant where the route begins.
