In this article we want to share with you a circular hiking trail by Agaete Valley that begins and ends in the Las Nieves Port, in the north of Gran Canaria. During this route you will be able to appreciate one of the most beautiful landscapes that the island hides, as it passes by La Era de Berbique at more than 600 meters of altitude. Then, The trail ends with breathtaking views towards the north coast of the island. If that's okay with you, we give you all the details below.

Agaete Valley Circular from Puerto de Las Nieves
As we said, it is a circular route that starts from the Las Nieves Port y crosses the entire Agaete ravine. Once you arrive at San Pedro neighborhood (Agaete Valley), the ascent begins through one of the Gran Canaria trails more spectacular. Once the climb is over, you will reach the Berbique era with views of the Valley and to the rugged mountains of tamadaba. If it has rained recently, you may find some water falling down the slopes of these mountains and enjoy a green landscape that will remind you of Mount Pavon.

Route characteristics and recommendations
We do not recommend this circular through the Agaete Valley for beginners given its length and unevenness. Although if you have done the Camino de Santiago de Gran Canaria, you can with this one. Us We did it running on the flats and at a good pace on the climbs with a break of about 15 minutes and it took us 3:50 hours. We also stopped quite a few times to record video of the route and take photos. With which, If you do it walking, possibly afternoons of 5 to 6 hours, depending on your physical condition and the stops you make.
Distance | 17 km |
Approximate duration | 4-6 horas |
Total promotion | 930 m |
Level | Intermediate-advanced |
Circular | Yes |
Rooftop dining room | No |
Suitable for children | No |
In any case, if you want to shorten it You can leave from the Agaete Valley instead of from the Puerto de Las Nieves. However, you will have to go and return by bus to and from Puerto de Las Nieve. Or go with two cars, leaving one in Las Nieves and another in the Valley to avoid the first part of the ravine, since the route also ends at the port. Although the Agaete ravine is not that worth it, The final descent from Berbique to Las Nieves is amazing. We were lucky because the day was clear and the mountains were super green as we showed.

Main Points of interest that you will find along the trail are:
- Las Nieves Port
- Agaete Valley
- Los Castaños Estate and Los Berrazales Winery
- Berbique Era and Berbique Caves
- Views of the slopes of Tamadaba (reminds us of Yosemite National Park, USA), the west coast of Gran Canaria (the famous Dragon's tail) and Tenerife (clear days).

To consider
In the steepest part that ascends towards Berbique from San Pedro there is a metal chain to hold onto to propel yourself up the climb and we suppose it is of great help when the path is muddy. On the other side of the trail there is also a fence, so the entire path is quite safe. However, keep in mind that along the Agaete ravine there are two small climbs (about three steps each) in which you have to climb over some rocks without much difficulty (if you are an agile person). One of these "escalations" will be for exit the ravine through an abandoned corral (we show it in the video), although the track will be of great help to you.

Important, during the path that goes from San Pedro to Puerto de Las Nieves we will not find supplies. Therefore, we recommend bringing enough water and food for the final part of the route. In total, for the full track, we recommend At least one liter of water per person and snacks. Note that During the summer months the landscape can change and become much hotter. So you probably need to bring more water too and go out first thing in the day.
