Below you can see all the offers available in the destination in case you don’t mind staying anywhere in Gran Canaria, either because you are going to rent a car or for whatever reason.
Hotels in Gran Canaria, the best places to stay
As we said, there is too much hotel supply on the island and choosing well is difficult. We are going to recommend that you take into account several important points before you choose the best place to holiday in Gran Canaria for you.
- Avoid all-inclusive hotels. The food is usually of very low quality and the all inclusive is against discovering the local cuisine and, therefore, the culture of Gran Canaria.
- Avoid crowded areas. The most crowded areas of hotels and apartments in Gran Canaria are all on the south. If you do not want to be in a very touristic area, you should mainly avoid Puerto Rico, Taurito, Amadores beach and Playa del Inglés. Finally, if you are looking for cheap hotels in Gran Canaria, surely these places will appear in the first options.
- Combine your stay in the north and south and/or rural areas of the island (as long as you come for several days). In this way, you will save time traveling and you will be able to discover the contrasting landscapes of the island. We always recommend spending at least one night in Las Palmas de Gran Canaria city.
On this page we will tell you about the best places to stay on the island of Gran Canaria. That is, we will share with you our different getaways. Of course, only the good ones and you will find them all at the end of this article. Thus, we will help you choose the best hotel in Gran Canaria for your holidays. Below we detail, from our point of view, the best areas to stay in Gran Canaria.
Hotels in Las Palmas city
One of the best ways to feel the local life is to stay in Las Palmas de Gran Canaria city, the island’s capital. In addition, the city will give you access to practically everything: culture, beaches, shopping, good restaurants, etc. We don’t have the nature life at all, but with a rented car and knowing how to get around Gran Canaria it is solved quickly. However, the city has 4 urban beaches that, as we say, are our outdoor parks.
We recommend several areas. One of them is Las Canteras beach. On the other hand, if you prefer a quiet area and at the same time stay in the capital, we suggest the neighborhood of Triana or Vegueta. You can have a look at our super article with all the places to visit in Las Palmas de Gran Canaria so you can better choose the area.
You can have a look at our post about our recommendations of hotels in Las Palmas. Our favorite ones are:
- Hotel Suites 1478, old town Vegueta
- Santa Catalina a Royal Hideaway hotel, downtown Las Palmas de Gran Canaria
- Hotel Bull Reina Isabel Spa, beach hotel in Las Canteras
- NH Imperial Playa, beach hotel in Las Canteras
Where to stay in Gran Gran Canaria (south)
As we mentioned before, finding hotels in the south of Gran Canaria will be easy, since there is a wide range. Below we will talk about the best areas to stay and what you will find in each of them so that you can choose the one you like best based on prices. In most of them you can reserve now and pay upon arrival.
✔ Hotels in San Agustin
Nordic tourists are concentrated in San Agustín beach in winter. On the other hand, during the months of July and August it is where many locals spend the summer. In this area you have a nice promenade, restaurants, supermarkets, clinics and the beaches of Las Burras and San Agustín. We suggest these two options with a good value for money:
- Hotel Gloria Palace San Agustín Thalasso & Hotel, San Agustín. Gran Canaria all inclusive
- Hotel Don Gregory by Dunas, Las Burras. Gran Canaria hotels with sea view and only adult
✔ Hotels in Maspalomas and Meloneras
Both Maspalomas and Meloneras are quite nice for a vacation. In fact, it is where the best hotels in Gran Canaria are concentrated and, therefore, where prices are more expensive. In addition to having very good 5-star hotels, there is also a good offer of holiday homes, apartments and villas. These two southern beaches are connected by a boardwalk where you will find different resorts, restaurants, and shops. Those suggested by localguidegrancanaria.com are:
- Seaside Grand Hotel Residencia, the best hotel in Gran Canaria
- Hotel Seaside Pam beach, hotel with sea view
- Lopesan Villa del Conde Resort, hotel with sea view
- Santa Mónica Suites hotel, hotels near Playa del Inglés and Maspalomas. As you can see, it is walking distances from Playa del Inglés
- Hotel RIU Palace Meloneras
- Lopesan Costa Meloneras Resort & Spa
The area around the Maspalomas lighthouse is also popular for families, as all kinds of services are just a few steps away and the sea is usually calm. Finally, we could say that Meloneras is also fantastic for families due to its offer of resort-type hotels with entertainment and mini clubs. Regarding family hotels, here are the top hotels in Meloneras:
- Lopesan Baobab resort, African design and family rooms
- Hotel RIU Gran Canaria, all inclusive with sea views and nice hotel for kids
Finally, there are other hotels on the island dedicated exclusively to the LGTB community and the majority are in Maspalomas and Playa del Inglés. Especially near the El Yumbo Shopping Center. Here you can find gay men only accommodation, options where you can practice naturism, swinger hotels, among others.
✔ Hotels in Salobre Golf
If what you are looking for is a place away from the masses where you can rest and enjoy the sun, the Salobre Golf area is your place. Here there is only one big hotel, villas with private pools and a golf course. We have been clients or guests of the Salobre Hotel Resort & Serenity. We can affirm that it is one of the best 5-star hotels on the island with a spa and a first-class gastronomic offer. In addition, it is very good value for money. The only bad thing is that for everything you have to take the car, that is, it is not part of the hotels near the beach. If you are going to rent a car, you really like it for its tranquility.
✔ Accommodation in Arguineguín – Patalavaca
Arguineguín and Patalavaca can be said that they are also two coastal areas for Nordic tourists. Above all Norwegians. It is true that in summer it is full of local tourism. In Arguineguín there is a hotel offer, but nothing exaggerated, since it is rather a town of Canarian residents. Both in Arguineguín and in Patalavaca you have practically everything: supermarkets, pharmacies, restaurants…
The promenade that takes you from Arguineguín to Patalavaca and vice versa has one of the best sunsets of Gran Canaria. In Patalavaca the most popular hotel is the Radisson Blu Resort Gran Canaria.
✔ Hotels in Puerto de Mogán
Puerto de Mógan is one of the best-known tourist areas on the island of Gran Canaria. Ideal for family vacations. Its town is very calm, like the waters of its beach. The only bad thing is that it is 1 hour drive from Las Palmas de Gran Canaria. However, its connection with the Mogán Valley and the beautiful west coast of the island is very easy. Another characteristic of Puerto de Mogán is that it is one of the areas of the island with the most hours of sunshine per year, so if you are looking for guaranteed good weather, this is your place. We invite you to take a look at these hotel options in Gran Canaria:
- Radisson Blu Ressort & Spa, hotel in Mogán Gran Canaria
- Hotel Cordial Mogán Playa, walking distance from the beach of Mogán
✔ Hotels Playa del Águila beach
It is a very quiet and non crowded part of the island, but also touristic. However, we would recommend it, as it still retains part of its authenticity and beaches with few people. Here you have restaurants, supermarkets and a beautiful promenade. This area includes the beaches of Bahía Feliz, Águila and Pirata beaches.
Rural hotels Gran Canaria
If you like nature and rural environments, below we will make a list of the best sites to stay in rural hotels in Gran Canaria, so as in rural houses. Here you can disconnect to connect with nature.
✔ Rural houses in Fataga
From Fataga we have already written before with special affection, for all the beauty that surrounds it. It is barely 20 minutes from Maspalomas beach and a few steps from Roque Nublo, but in its surroundings there is also a lot to see. We encourage you to dig a little more about this town in our article about Fataga.
✔ Rural hotels and rural houses in Tejeda
It is said that Tejeda is one of the most beautiful towns in Spain. And not only its town. Its nature, trails and monuments such as the Roque Nublo and Bentayga which are very beautiful. Everything is in the same municipality and they are part of the Sacred Mountains of Gran Canaria (World Heritage Site). If you don’t spend the night here, at least don’t miss it! Below we leave you with a picture of the Parador Nacional in Cruz de Tejeda.
✔ Rural and cave houses in Artenara
Artenara is characterized by its offer of rural houses inside caves or cave-houses. An experience that you can live in few places and we strongly recommend. In addition, it has a network of trails and incredible landscapes in general.
✔ Rural houses and hotels in Agaete
Agaete is a municipality that offers you the most authentic of the Gran Canaria coast thanks to the beauty of the fishing village, Puerto de las Nieves. It also consists of dream accommodations in its valleys such as Valle de Agaete or in the Guayedra ravine. It is one of the most beautiful parts of Gran Canaria without a doubt, where the local is preserved and the influence of tourism has scarcely penetrated. We suggest you here the Occidental Roca Negra hotel. Therefore, even if you do not stay here, Agaete should be a mandatory stop on your visit to the island.
✔ Rural houses in La Aldea de San Nicolás
The village of La Aldea de San Nicolás is one of the least populated and most charming municipalities of Gran Canaria, very close to the spectacular beaches of Güigüi and several little-known enclaves that many Canarians do not even know as Tasarte, Tasartico and Veneguera. In addition, in the town of San Nicolás you will perceive the happiness and relax of those who live far from the big cities. In La Aldea you will have sea and mountains as much as you wish.
Well, this has been our article about hotels in Gran Canaria. As you can see, we have all types of accommodation: family resorts, adults only hotels, cave houses, all-inclusive and cheap hotels, luxury villas (have a look at our article about villas in Gran Canaria), 5-star hotels, 4-star hotels, hotels in Las Palmas de Gran Canaria and beautiful houses and / or rural hotels.
At the same time, although we don’t mention it here (because we would have to mention the whole island), they are also more good areas to stay and get involved in the local life of Gran Canaria: Sardina del Norte, Guayadeque, Ingenio, Agüimes, Gáldar, Santa Lucía de Tirajana…
