Hotels in Gran Canaria there are many, but choosing the establishment and the area well is not easy. In this post, as always, we will recommend you as if you were our friend who comes to visit us. It is clear that everything will depend on the reason of your trip, your budget and who you travel with. However, we are going to make our best to select for you the most amazing areas, so that you can choose the best place to stay in Gran Canaria. Here we go!

Hotels in Gran Canaria
As we said, there is too much hotel supply on the island and choosing well is difficult. We are going to recommend that you take into account several important points before you choose your stay in Gran Canaria.
- Avoid all-inclusive hotels. The food is usually of very low quality and goes against discovering the local cuisine and, therefore, the culture of Gran Canaria. We do not like it! 🙁
- Avoid crowded areas. The most crowded areas of hotels and apartments in Gran Canaria are all on the south coast. If you do not want to be in a very touristic area, you should mainly avoid Puerto Rico, Taurito, Amadores and Playa del Inglés. Finally, if you are looking for cheap hotels in Gran Canaria, surely the first options that will appear in your search results are in these areas.
- Combine your stay in the north and south and/or rural areas of the island (as long as you come for several days). In this way, you will save time traveling and you will be able to discover the contrasting landscapes of the island.
On this page we will tell you about the best hotels and areas to stay in Gran Canaria. In other words, we will share with you our experience in different establishments in Gran Canaria in each of our getaways. Of course, only the good ones hehe. Thus, we will help you choose the best hotel in Gran Canaria for your holidays.
Best hotels in Gran Canaria

In other words, we can be in a rural or beach hotel in less than an hour. How lucky to live here! Below you have each of our experiences in different hotel establishments in Gran Canaria. Do you know any? Which one do you recommend for the next one? At the end we detail what for us are the best areas to stay on the island, we are sure that it will help you.
Best places to stay in Gran Canaria
Below we detail, from our point of view, the best areas to stay in Gran Canaria.
Hotels in Las Palmas de Gran Canaria
One of the best ways to feel the local life is to stay in Las Palmas de Gran Canaria city, the island’s capital. In addition, the city will give you access to practically everything: culture, beaches, shopping, good restaurants, etc. We don’t have the nature life at all, but with a rented car and knowing how to get around Gran Canaria it is solved quickly. However, the city has 4 urban beaches that, as we say, are our outdoor parks.
We recommend several areas. One of them is Las Canteras beach. On the other hand, if you prefer a quiet area and at the same time stay in the capital, we suggest the neighborhood of Triana or Vegueta. In Vegueta we recommend the emblematic hotel Suites 1478 with only 9 rooms and located in an old Canarian house.

You can have a look now at our post about our recommendations of hotels in Las Palmas de Gran Canaria.
Hotels in the south of Gran Canaria
As mentioned before, the southern coast of Gran Canaria is the one with the highest number of hotels. Next we will talk about the best areas to stay in the south of Gran Canaria. And, in addition, we will explain what you will find in each of them so that you can choose yours.
✔ Hotels in Playa del Águila beach
It is a very quiet and non crowded part of the island, but also touristic. However, we would recommend it, as it still retains part of its authenticity and beaches with few people. Here you have restaurants, supermarkets and a beautiful promenade. This area includes the beaches of Bahía Feliz, Águila and Pirata beaches.

✔ Hotels in San Agustin
In San Agustín the Nordic tourist concentrates in winter. On the other hand, in the months of July and August it is quite crowded of Gran Canaria holiday makers. Which can be good if you want to get closer to them. However, the beaches will be crowded. During the rest of the months of the year San Agustin is a haven of peace despite the wide range of hotels and apartments that it has, since it is quite dispersed. In this area you have a beautiful promenade, restaurants, supermarkets, clinics and the beaches of Las Burras and San Agustín
✔ Hotels in Maspalomas and Meloneras
Both Maspalomas and Meloneras are quite quiet areas for a holiday. These two areas and beaches of the south are connected by a promenade where you will find different resorts, restaurants and shops. There are apartments and hotels in Gran Canaria dedicated exclusively to the LGTB collective and most of them are in Maspalomas. Especially near the El Yumbo Shopping Center. However, the area of Maspalomas is wide and there is an offer for practically every type of public, even 5-star hotels. If you have any doubt about hotels in Maspalomas, write us an email and we will advise you as best as possible.

The area of Maspalomas Lighthouse is also recommended for families, since a few steps you have all kinds of services and the sea is calm. Finally, the area of Meloneras could say that it is also familiar for its offer of resort-type hotels with entertainment for children.

✔ Hotels in Salobre Golf
If what you are looking for is a place away from the masses where you can rest and enjoy the sun, the area of Salobre Golf is your place. Here there is only one great hotel, quality holiday homes and a nice golf course. We know firsthand the Salobre Hotel Resort & Serenity. We can say without a doubt that it is one of the best 5-star hotels on the island with a first class gastronomic offer. The only bad thing about this area is that you have to take the car for everything. If you are a localguider and you planned to move anyway, that will not be a problem for you.

✔ Hotels in Arguineguín – Patalavaca
Arguineguín and Patalavaca can be said that they are also two coastal areas for Nordic tourists. Above all Norwegians. It is true that in summer it is full of local tourism. In Arguineguín there is a hotel offer, but nothing exaggerated, since it is rather a town of Canarian residents. Both in Arguineguín and in Patalavaca you have practically everything: supermarkets, pharmacies, restaurants…
The promenade that takes you from Arguineguín to Patalavaca and vice versa has one of the best sunsets of Gran Canaria. Do not miss it!

✔ Hotels in Puerto de Mogán
The Puerto de Mógan town is one of the well-known tourist areas of Gran Canaria. Ideal for family holidays. Its village is very quiet, like the sea of its main beach. The only drawback is that it is 1 hour by car from the capital. However, its connection to the Mogán Valley and the beautiful west coast of Gran Canaria is very easy. In Puerto de Mogán you have practically all the services: supermarkets, restaurants, ice cream shops, promenade and activities for the little ones. Another characteristic of Puerto de Mogán is that it is one of the areas of Gran Canaria with more hours of sunshine per year, so if you are looking for guaranteed sun, this is your place.

Rural hotels in Gran Canaria
If you like nature and rural environments, below we will make a list of the best sites to stay in rural hotels in Gran Canaria, so as in rural houses. Here you can disconnect to connect with nature.
✔ Rural houses in Fataga
From Fataga we have already written before with special affection, for all the beauty that surrounds it. It is barely 20 minutes from Maspalomas beach and a few steps from Roque Nublo, but in its surroundings there is also a lot to see. We encourage you to dig a little more about this town in our article about Fataga.

✔ Hotels and rural houses in Tejeda
It is said that Tejeda is one of the most beautiful towns in Spain. And not only its town. Its nature, trails and monuments such as the Roque Nublo and Bentayga which are very beautiful. Everything is in the same municipality and they are part of the Sacred Mountains of Gran Canaria (World Heritage Site). If you don’t spend the night here, at least don’t miss it! Below we leave you with a picture of the Parador Nacional in Cruz de Tejeda.

✔ Rural and cave houses in Artenara
Artenara is characterized by its offer of rural houses inside caves or cave-houses. An experience that you can live in few places and we strongly recommend. In addition, it has a network of trails and incredible landscapes in general.

✔ Rural houses and hotels in Agaete
Agaete is a municipality that offers you the most authentic of the Gran Canaria coast thanks to the beauty of the fishing village, Puerto de las Nieves. It also consists of dream accommodations in its valleys such as Valle de Agaete or in the Guayedra ravine. It is one of the most beautiful parts of Gran Canaria without a doubt, where the local is preserved and the influence of tourism has scarcely penetrated. We suggest you here the Occidental Roca Negra hotel. Therefore, even if you do not stay here, Agaete should be a mandatory stop on your visit to the island.

✔ Rural houses in La Aldea de San Nicolás
The village of La Aldea de San Nicolás is one of the least populated and most charming municipalities of Gran Canaria, very close to the spectacular beaches of Güigüi and several little-known enclaves that many Canarians do not even know as Tasarte, Tasartico and Veneguera. In addition, in the town of San Nicolás you will perceive the happiness and relax of those who live far from the big cities. In La Aldea you will have sea and mountains as much as you wish.

Well, this has been our article about hotels in Gran Canaria. As you can see, we have all types of accommodation: family resorts, adults only hotels, cave houses, all-inclusive and cheap hotels, luxury villas (have a look at our article about villas in Gran Canaria), 5-star hotels, 4-star hotels, hotels in Las Palmas de Gran Canaria and beautiful houses and / or rural hotels.

At the same time, although we don’t mention it here (because we would have to mention the whole island), they are also more good areas to stay and get involved in the local life of Gran Canaria: Sardina del Norte, Guayadeque, Ingenio, Agüimes, Gáldar, Santa Lucía de Tirajana…
We hope that this information has been helpful for you to choose the best area or places to stay. If this is your first time in our site, you have to know that we have prepared some local Guides of Gran Canaria which could help you to discover the most authentic side of the island on your own.
