We take to long three hours and a quarter (round trip). It must be taken into account that we left Tasartico around 9 in the morning to avoid the sun, so the climb was not so hot. In addition, we went at a very good pace, on occasion jogging and we did not take long breaks. Likewise, we recommend that you Before you go check the weather forecast and prepare your hiking kit. If you do the download from an Android device and you have problems with the file, here you have the solution. In that link we also explain how to follow a track with apps like Guru Maps.
Tips for visiting the beach on your own
- En Güigüi beach You will not find anywhere to buy food or drink. Rather you won't be able to buy anything. It is a virgin site without services.
- You must leave before 9:00 in the morning from Tasartico and in summer even before. The sun at 11:00 is very strong and in this area there is hardly any breeze nor are there any shades to protect yourself from the sun.
- You must carry enough water for the round trip. Even bring a cooler with ice and water to leave in the car so when you get back you can have water. It is true that arriving at Güi güi beach there is a hose that provides drinking water. Nevertheless, We cannot trust this and we have to count on the fact that there is no water that day, it is broken, etc.
- You should bring enough food to get you through the day.
- Be careful in winter it gets dark at 18pm. If you are not going to spend the night camping there, you will have to leave Güigüi at 15:30 p.m. at the latest. Unless you are perfectly equipped with flashlights, which can be an option, since the sunsets here are brutal.
- There is no coverage on the beach
- It is a beach where the nudism is allowed
- If you are not going camping, bring the essentials. We recommend a light backpack
- Access with pets. We took our Weimaraners, Silver and Silver. They enjoyed the journey very much, but even for them it was sometimes very hard because of the heat. In any case, keep in mind that it is not a dog beach as such.
Güigüi Grande and Güigüi Chico beaches
The beaches of Güigüi are divided into two. Güigüi grande, which is the first one you find when you go down the path. To get to Güigüi Chico you access it on foot through Güigüi Grande when the tide is low or by sea.. We were lucky and the tide was very low when we arrived.

Hello! Thank you very much for your recommendations 🙂 I want to go to Guigui one of these weekends with a friend who is visiting. We would be 2 people, both relatively fit. I wanted to ask you two things:
– Does getting from Guanarteme to Tasartico by car have many curves? Is it a dangerous path? Heights give me a bit of a bad feeling, although I have gone to Tejeda without a problem.
– The walk itself, apart from the physical hardness, can be dangerous (slippery, very narrow paths, etc.).
The fact that there is no coverage bothers me a little, especially for my friend Guiri.
Thank you very much, I always read and watch your videos, highly recommended 🙂
Ruth & Jorge says
Hello, Martha!!
Thank you very much for your comment! The truth is that it is a road that I have done two or three times in my life, I am not very familiar with it... I remember that there are curves to get there, of course, it is the La Aldea road, I don't know if you know it. Regarding the trail, I don't remember any dangerous or slippery areas. It is important that they are well equipped and if you are not sure where to go, you can always turn around... the trails are subject to changes due to rain, wind, erosion and it is beyond our control to know how they are at all times, sorry.
And as for coverage, let someone know the day you are going to do the trail, so they can keep an eye on it. In any case, there is always another hiker around.
Greetings and enjoy!
Pablo says
Hello, I have been to this beach three times, all three times on foot. The path is hard, you have to be prepared with water, a hat and a cane.
It is very important to arrive when the tide is low or falling, otherwise the enjoyment of the beach will be very visible and you will not be able to access the one that is next to it.
I need to know the phone number of the people who make boat transfers from Güigüi to Tatartico, since I want to go but with children.
Do you have a contact phone number? The person I knew no longer makes transfers.
Thank you
Local Guide Gran Canaria says
Hi, Pablo!
Thank you very much for contacting us and for sharing your experience with everyone.
As of today, as far as we know, there is no official company that makes this transfer. We know that there are people who do it, but we do not know if it is legal, if they have a license and liability insurance. The journey can be VERY dangerous and it is important that you make sure you travel with someone who meets all the requirements, lest there be an accident.
We are sorry we cannot help, but we prefer to be proactive.
Greetings and thank you,
Julia says
Hello! I'm Julia again! We went to Güigüí on Thursday, August 26. Even though it was 31°C and our alarm didn't ring, we decided to do the route! We took some ready-made sandwiches, nuts, 3 liters of water per person and sports shoes. And always, a bag for the trash we generate. We started super late, at 11:25, and I don't recommend it because the journey is very hard at that time and with those temperatures. However, it is worth the effort. Not only because of the beach, which we could also see the big one because the tide went out, but also because of the panoramic view all the way. It was quite a discovery! To finish: we also walked the return trip and since the sun had gone down, there was a breeze and we were in the shade, it was pleasant. Be careful when it comes time to return, because we make the most of the daylight hours and we almost have to use a cell phone flashlight. The people who were on the beach left in a boat taxi that appeared on the beach at 18:15+-. Thank you very much again for the entire description, as it made the entire experience easier for us due to the preparation we had.
P.S. Luckily we were able to refill the bottles with drinking water on the beach for the return trip.
PD2. Please be respectful of the Natural Area and do not leave any type of trash, including paper if you pee, or nut shells or fruit skin. That's not your place.
Local Guide Gran Canaria says
Hello Julia!! Thank you very much for sharing with everyone your visit and experience visiting Güigüi, our little paradise.
a greeting
Bea says
Hello! I plan to do the route at the end of October, will it also be very hot at that time?
On the other hand, I am a little afraid of heights, but especially of gorges, is the route mostly walking through gorges?
Thank you very much for all the details and your blog!
Local Guide Gran Canaria says
Hello Bea!!
Thank you for your comment 🙂
In October it is usually still hot... so you have to follow the recommendations of going early and bringing plenty of water. It is a very arid area. Regarding the gorges, it is not all the time walking through areas with a lot of height... but there are some... I guess it is worth it 🙂
All the best
Julia says
Hello! We will go to Guigui these days and it is not clear to us if the path along the journey is marked or if it is only marked at the beginning. Thanks for the podcast and the blog!
Local Guide Gran Canaria says
Hello Julia!! Thank you very much for your comment 🙂
The trail the last time we went was marked, you can see the path perfectly. It is a mountain with cliffs where there is not much more than the path to the beach, so you shouldn't get lost.
Be careful, these days it is very hot, we do not recommend going on very hot days.
A hug!
Daniel says
Hello good! We wanted to go to Guigui one day this month, and I wanted to know if you can camp quietly without the risk of getting caught by the tide. Even if there is high tide, is there enough room to put a couple of tents?
Thank you!!
Local Guide Gran Canaria says
Hello!!! The truth is that we have no experience camping in Güigüi, but we know that people do it without a problem, so you will have to put the tent as close to the mountain as possible. I suppose that when you go there will be people and you will be able to ask… we cannot speak from our own experience in this case, sorry!!
Jorge says
Hello, I just went on 2/08/21 and the truth is that if you want to go you have to go very early because the sun burns you, the path is very bad both up and down. And the truth is that I expected something else when I arrived, but it's not as they say... I give my opinion, you go and judge... I forgot to bring water for the round trip because there is nothing and I had a very bad time
Local Guide Gran Canaria says
Hi Jorge!! Thank you for sharing your valuable opinion. Perhaps because you were poorly prepared (with little water and without going out during times when the sun is weaker) your perception of the place was worse. Everything influences. Güigüi is a virgin beach, with black sand where you find yourself surrounded by cliffs, totally isolated. That is what it is. I don't know what they say, I hope it's not because of something you've read here... :)
Ángela says
Good afternoon, yes, I have stayed several times both with a tent and just with bags, above the sand there are stones and you can stay there without a problem, the water does not reach there.
Although rats do 😅😅.
There are people who have worked hard and made shelters with stones to be able to stay in good conditions.
My advice since I usually go regularly..
Little clothing, and a lot of liquid.
A greeting and I hope you helps .
Local Guide Gran Canaria says
Hi Angela! Thank you very much for sharing your experience with everyone!! A hug
Monica says
Hello! Do you think I can do the tour with normal sneakers or will I need hiking shoes?
Local Guide Gran Canaria says
Hello Monica! If they are sneakers, in principle yes, but since it has been raining we don't know what the trail will be like. Ideally, they should be mountain shoes (with cleats). All the best, Ruth
Miguel says
We are going to go to Guigui this weekend and we would like to return by boat or note to Playa del Asno…. Is it possible to rent or pay for local transportation?
Local Guide Gran Canaria says
Hello Miguel! The truth is that we know that when there was tourism there was a boat that would take you and bring you back, but the truth is that we do not know if anyone can give you this service. Maybe someone reads it and contacts you. We are truly sorry we cannot help you.
María says
Good morning, I want to go but it seems like the road is hard. The sport I do is Pilates and I don't know if I dare go, because I like to walk and visiting this beach is an illusion that I have had for many years. I feel strong and encouraged to go. What advice do you give me???
Local Guide Gran Canaria says
Hello Maria, thank you very much for your message.
I guess you haven't had time to read our entire article. There we mention our main recommendations, we hope they help you. The most important thing is that you bring enough food and water for the round trip, appropriate footwear, and get up very early to avoid HIGH hours of sun. Ideally, you should NOT be on that path between 10:00 and 18:00 in summer, the heat is unbearable, there is no air flow and there is no shade. Much encouragement! You tell us now!
If you have any questions, you can write to us :)
A greeting.
Ruth
Manuel Gallego says
Hello:
I want to go to gui gui next March 10, but I have to wait for my girlfriend who arrives at the airport at 11 so we will start walking around 12, my question is if you advise me against starting at that time due to the issue of sun, or if we are well prepared we can do it, thanks in advance.
Manuel
Local Guide Gran Canaria says
Hello Manuel!
Thank you very much for your comment.
From the airport to where the trail begins by car it takes at least 1 hour and a half. Then add at least 3 hours of walking alone (round trip). So if you start walking at 12:30, you will arrive at 14:00 p.m. at the earliest and then you have to leave at 16:00 p.m. so that it doesn't get dark. The truth is that I don't know if it's worth the effort to just enjoy 2 hours of the beach... Also, if that day is sunny, you can get very hot... although since it is winter, a priori the sun is not so strong. If you are a hiker, you are in good physical shape, you bring enough water, food and hats, you can do it, but you will practically have to return when you arrive so that it doesn't get dark. It is something that you should consider if it is worth it... yes, the weather is so unpredictable lately that it may rain, be cold or very hot... we are destroying the planet! 🙁 Tell us now! A hug
Domingo García says
To access the small Güigüi from the large one by walking along the beach you have to go not only at low tide, but you must also go down about a meter or more (see tide table). My question is, can you go by land even if it is complicated?
Thanks for everything.
Juan says
You can go through two different places, from the village through Cuermeja, it will take time depending on the physical shape you are in. Young people usually make the journey in less than two hours one way and two hours back.
Then there is the road through Tasartico, it is going up a mountain and then going down. It also depends on physical fitness. Young people make the journey for an hour there and back.
It is worth walking, and also by boat to see the west coast of the island.
Local Guide Gran Canaria says
Thank you very much for your contribution Juan! A hug.
Local Guide Gran Canaria says
Hello Domingo, sorry, we were confused in responding to you! It seems that Juan has already done it. A hug!
alexis garcia says
I did it with Fernando Baez when I was 8 years old and I didn't see it as hard. We left from Agaete. It was a wonderful week, very nice night camping route.
Local Guide Gran Canaria says
Hello Alexis! How cool! Thank you very much for sharing your experience with our community! Since Agaete I suppose it will be even longer, right? A hug.

Dominique
Local Guide Gran Canaria says
Bonjour Dominique! Merci pour ton commentaire! 🙂
Three good! Vous l'avez fait! What is this like on the beach? Et les paysages en chemin?
Merce beaucoup et à la prochaine!

JA says
The road is good, I usually make the trip from the village to Guigui and then to Tasartico, about 3 hours between running and walking with plenty of water, some food, good shoes, a hat and light clothing and always very early so that the sun does not hit me. . If you are going to do the walk you have to be a person who practices some sports and be somewhat fit, otherwise you can have a hard time.
Local Guide Gran Canaria says
Hello!! I totally agree, that's what we recommend! A hug, Ruth
Javier says
Hello. I am used to running about three times a week for about an hour, between 10 and 14km, at a good pace. In addition, I practice hiking regularly on very varied routes, I can say that I am moderately fit. However, I have read and heard quite pessimistic comments about the hardness of the path, to the point of having serious doubts about going on it. I have heard comments about the trail that describe it as a kind of Vietnam in the 60s. The truth is that I am excited to go, but since I see that in general it is an almost supernatural effort for most people, well I have started to get too much respect. Is it really so hard that you can't enjoy it? All the best.
Local Guide Gran Canaria says
Hello Javier, not at all. If you are well prepared it can be done perfectly. You just have to be aware that you are going to find a very steep path on the way there and back. If you practice hiking and are used to running, you won't have any problems, but don't expect a flat and comfortable trail either, because it isn't. In addition, there is hardly any air circulation, which makes the heat suffocating. Therefore, we insist on our advice:
1) Go as light as possible so as not to burden your back and legs
2) Bring enough water and food to spend the day on the beach and endure both trips (minimum 2l per person)
3) Go early, you should be walking at 9:00 at the latest to avoid the strong sun. There is no shade on the path, so to avoid sunstroke you should wear a hat.
4) Appropriate footwear and clothing for the walk. In the end it is about 2 hours there and 2 hours back.
Tell us how your experience was, we are sure it will be positive.
A hug
Laura says
We have just finished the route and commented that it is quite hard and you should wear hiking boots because many of the slopes are slippery. I have done quite a few routes and this one is not easy, I emphasize this as a warning to sailors if they expect something else
Local Guide Gran Canaria says
Hello Laura! Thank you for sharing your experience with our readers, we hope that our post has been a guide to you even though it has been "uphill" for you, never better said hehe, but despite the hardness, it is worth it, right? A hug!
Chiaradine says
Fantastic! Thank you for taking the time to explain everything in such detail and with photos. For my part, I am ready for the adventure… your dogs are beautiful! Thanks a lot! ??❤️
Local Guide Gran Canaria says
Hello Chiaradina! The adventure is highly recommended, you have to go if you haven't already! And about the dogs, what are we going to tell you 🙂 Thank you and a hug.

Let's see on Sunday I want to go to Guigui walking from Tasartico, me plus three people and I'm very, very afraid, please someone give me an answer
Local Guide Gran Canaria says
Hello alba! what are you afraid of? What do you want us to give you an answer to? We don't see any questions! In our post you have all the details to take into account. Lots of water and food and the lowest possible weight. All the best!
Vitolo says
Are there risks of detachment?
Local Guide Gran Canaria says
Hello vitolo! Not that we know. Because?
davinia rodriguez galvan says
Good evening... I'm not afraid of walking since I'm used to doing sports. But I am afraid of how I can find the tide, since I am not a friend of the waves and to return the group I am going with wants to do it by boat. I don't know if they have only been once or more, if they know more people who have gone and if they can tell me how you can usually find the tide, whether rough (that is, with waves) or calm.
If you read this, I would appreciate it if you responded to my email. Thank you.
Local Guide Gran Canaria says
Good night Davinia! Perfect, we will respond to you by email. Thanks to you 🙂
