Circular from Las Palmas de GC to the airport through the coast

22/02/2021 Por Local Guide Gran Canaria

This circular route departs from Las Palmas de Gran Canaria towards the airport along paths and dirt tracks. It is an ideal route for gravel bike or MTB bikes.

Circular MTB route from Las Palmas de Gran Canaria

The interesting thing about this route is that we are going to avoid going back the same way. We recommend that you start the route in Las Palmas de GC, to end with a happy ending with good views from the Los Giles viewpoint.

Distance77,7 km
Unevenness+1297m
Estimated duration5/6 hours
Minimum drink2 l
Minimum food1000 kcal
Provisioning during the routeYes
Technical levelLow
Recommended bikeXC/Gravel

Once we get to the airport by bike along the coast, the route crosses the highway through a tunnel to go along tracks to Cuatro Puertas. Later, it heads north to the Barranco de Las Goteras. Here the route goes up tracks and paths to Tafira. From here it connects with the mythical Los Giles route to end at Las Canteras Beach. An unbeatable ending.

What is the best bike to do this route?

We recommend a rigid MTB or a Gravel, since there is really not too much technical level during the route. There are some kilometers that you will go through roads or rolling tracks. It also goes through a sandy area where you will have to carry the bike, but nothing relevant.

Sandy area by the coast. It is a few hundred meters.

What level is necessary for this route?

If you are a beginner, you could do at least 60% of the route to the airport. Up to this point there is practically no unevenness, so there are no climbs. So if you were tired here, you could just turn around the same way you came. On the contrary, if you still want more adventures and climb a little more, we recommend that you follow the track to the end, because there are many parts of the route that are little known and you feel that you are “lost” in the middle of nature.

One of the most beautiful areas of the route passes by the Tufia beach that we showed you in the previous picture.
