Bike route through Los Pérez Dam, Artenara

19/11/2020 Por Local Guide Gran Canaria

We want to share with you a bike route through Los Pérez dam, very close to Tamadaba and Artenara. In the northwest area of the island of Gran Canaria, which runs through an idyllic landscape for the practice of hiking or mountain biking. In this case we did it with enduro bikes. However, to be honest, a large percentage of the climb must be done off the bike, due to its positive slope and several prohibited steps for bicycles, although no sign announces this.

Departure from Los Pérez dam

We chose this point to leave the cars as we prefer to start going up and end up going down. A happy end 🙂  Especially when we have in “the finish lane” a bochinche with local food waiting for us. Previously it was called Ca Marcelino, but it has changed several times of owner. In any case, here you can eat some tapas or an ice cream to recharge batteries.

The beginning of the route is all up to the Peak of La Gorra. We left at an altitude of 843m and crowned two hours later at 1393 meters. At this point, the views of the mountains, Artenara and the different dams are spectacular.

Once we reached the highest point, we began to descend towards Artenara. Through numerous narrow roads or paths full of flow. Of white earth normally covered with pine needles. This bike route through Los Pérez dam is a little extreme in terms of climate. Since in summer it is usually quite hot and the terrain is very dry. And in winter, when the terrain is perfect (wet), it can be quite cold. So that, come prepared for the occasion. This means, take a lot of water in summer and a coat in winter. And of course good technical clothes for the practice of cycling. If you want to discover modern maillots designed in Gran Canaria, take a look at the Chela Clo brand.

Track of the bike route by the Los Pérez Dam

It lasts about 4 hours, has a positive height difference of 964m and approximately 20km in length. You will then be able to download the track in .gpx format so that you can follow the route on your own. If you don’t know how to download it and follow it from your navigator or smartphone, we’ll explain it to you here. If you want to support us so that we continue to create content for you about Gran Canaria, we will appreciate if you purchase one of our tracks, either to enjoy incredible routes or as a donation.
