If you are looking for a surfing in Gran Canaria, we are here to help you. First of all, you should know that the area of the island that we recommend the most for surfing is Las Palmas de Gran Canaria. In the south there are not so good conditions in the swell and, being a tourist area, the prices can skyrocket. Therefore, the ideal is to try surfing in Las Canteras, that is, in a 100% local environment and where there are waves practically 365 days a year. We give you all the details below, come and join us!

Gran Canaria is a paradise for this water sport and all its modalities, below you can see the index of contents that you will find throughout this article:
Surfing in Gran Canaria & surf spots
Here are the best surf sports in Gran Canaria. We only recommend some of them if you already have experience and are going to travel with your board or if you are planning to rent one as soon as you arrive on the island. Take note of the best beaches for catching waves:
- Las Canteras, surf in Las Palmas city
- Surf in Maspalomas, San Bartolomé de Tirajana
- Playa del Hombre, Telde
- Los Enanos / Quintanilla / San Andrés / El Puertillo, Arucas
- Vagabundo or San Felipe, Santa MarÃa de GuÃa
- La Laja beach, other place in Las Palmas to surf

✔ Surfing Las Palmas de Gran Canaria & surf camp Gran Canaria
As we said, the ideal place to start surfing in Gran Canaria is Las Canteras beach. This is where the majority of the capital’s residents practice this sport and where the different surf schools are concentrated. Surfing in Las Canteras means surfing in La CÃcer only. Why is that? Because the rest of the beach is protected by a volcanic barrier known as La Barra. Thanks to La Barra there is no swell on the rest of the beach and it makes the waters calm for other types of activities such as paddle surfing or kayaking in Gran Canaria.

In La CÃcer you can find different surf schools in Gran Canaria. We highlight Mojo Surf, 3RJ Surf Time, Oceanside Gran Canaria, Brisa School, Dreamsea Surf Camp, among others. Most of these schools offer different types of courses. From individual surfing lessons in Gran Canaria to a Las Palmas surf camp. They have different surf lessons in Las Palmas: standing paddle, bodyboard, longboard and regular surf. However, in Las Palmas kitesurfing is not usual.

✔ Maspalomas surf & surfing Playa del Inglés
Another of the best places to surf in Gran Canaria and, at the same time, to take lessons is at the beach of Maspalomas. There are also several schools here, including Canary Wave, Pro Surfing and Surf Maspalomas. However, as we said before, there is not always enough swell to practice at a professional level. Likewise, as it is a tourist area, it is possible that the prices may be higher. If you are staying in Playa del Inglés, we recommend you to look for a surf company in Maspalomas, as most of them are there. We like the Pro Surfing Company in Gran Canaria with surfing for begginers and Maspalomas kitesurfing lessons.
Paddle surfing in Gran Canaria
✔ SUP or Paddle Surfing in Las Palmas de Gran Canaria
As far as paddle surfing in Gran Canaria is concerned, if you want to go on a trip, we also recommend Las Canteras beach. Right in the part that is protected by La Barra and where we told you before that there are no waves. You can do a paddle surf route from La Puntilla until before La Cicer starts. Almost all the surf schools that we named at the beginning rent boards to paddle on your own and even organize routes.

✔ SUP or paddle surfing in Maspalomas
In the south of Gran Canaria, mainly on the beaches of Puerto Rico and Anfi beach, you will also be able to rent boards to make a SUP (standing up paddle) trip on your own. We also recommend ArguineguÃn to surf with paddle with the company SUP Gran Canaria.

Windsurfing in Gran Canaria & kite surfing
Concerning windsurfing and kite surfing in Gran Canaria, there is no doubt that the best beach in Gran Canaria is Pozo Izquierdo. In fact, the windsurfing world championship has been held here several times. If you want to discover other Gran Canaria kite surfing beaches, there are also good conditions at BahÃa de Formas and Playa de Vargas.

We must not forget to mention the Gran Canarian Daida and Iballa Ruano, twin sisters from Pozo Izquierdo who have more than 28 world windsurfing titles to their name.
Bodyboard in Gran Canaria
If bodyboarding is your thing, one of the best bodyboarding spots in the world is on the coast of Gáldar. It is El Frontón, the fifth best wave in the world. You can get here on foot from the Agujero swimming pool, which also offers good conditions for bodyboarding in Gran Canaria. It is important to bear in mind that this is a dangerous area and only recommended for experts due to the constant swell in the area and the power of the waves. Bodyboarding can also be practised in other areas such as Confital beach, La Laja and La CÃcer.
