San Agustín beach, a quiet and family beach

03/12/2021 Por Local Guide Gran Canaria Leave a Comment

San Agustín beach is one of the most touristy in Gran Canaria. It is located within the municipality of San Bartolomé de Tirajana, in the southern part of the island. Despite being a beach located within one of the tourist centers, it is quite quiet. In its surroundings there are several hotels, but most are small tourist apartments.

Playa de San Agustín

The San Agustín area is known to be the refuge during the winter months of many Nordics. This is one of our favorite beaches in Gran Canaria and we are going to let you know why in the following lines.

San Agustín beach, Gran Canaria

As we said, despite being a tourist beach, it is quite quiet and familiar. Its waters are usually calm, although sometimes it can be windy. The sand is golden, but also somewhat dark. San Agustín has practically all the services: showers, sunbeds rental, surveillance, toilets, etc. In addition, along its 600 meters in length there is a beautiful sea promenade at the foot of the hotels and apartments. The well-known El Capitán restaurant is also located on the same promenade.

San Agustín borders on one side with Las Burras beach (towards Maspalomas) and with El Pirata Beach or Morro Besudo (towards Las Palmas de Gran Canaria). The difference is that to get to Las Burras there is a promenade that even almost reaches Playa del Inglés. However, to get to El Pirata Beach, although you can walk, it is not by a walk along the sea, since you must first go up to the Balcón de San Agustín.

Restaurants in San Agustín

In San Agustín there are several restaurants that we can recommend. One of them we have already mentioned before, is the El Capitan Restaurant. Here you can taste delicious Canarian food and fresh fish overlooking the beach of San Agustín.

Another well-known in the area is the Addio Mare restaurant. A well known Italian restaurant for his sirloin pizzas. This is located in the commercial center of San Agustín, but they also make home delivery and have sea views from their terrace.

These two are our favorites, although you also have the option of having a drink on the Balcón de San Agustín restaurant with views of the entire bay and at sunset, including Maspalomas beach. If you are looking for more romantic options, we recommend the Gorbea restaurant, inside the Gloria Palace San Agustín hotel or the 928 Aroma Atlántico restaurant. Lastly, the Relax Beach Club restaurant has recently opened, on the beachfront, within the Beach Club hotel. Finally, many locals like the Cantón Chinese restaurant, also within the Beach Club hotel. We are not Chinese food lovers, but we mention it just in case…

Hotels in San Agustín

As we mentioned at the beginning, San Agustín is one of the most touristic areas of Gran Canaria. Here there is a wide range of apartments, although there are several hotels that you should take into account. We recommend the Meliá Tamarindos (right now is with a huge renovation) on the beachfront or the Gloria Palace San Agustín. The last one is more recommended if you are going with children and are looking for an all-inclusive hotel. We mention them below in case you want to take a look:

Apartaments

Regarding the offer of apartments in San Agustín, we recommend two spectacular places. The Buganvilla Apartments, with views of the sea and the entire coast of Maspalomas. We also suggest the Deva Beach Apartments that we show you below. Take a look!

Finally, below we invite you to take a look at our Gran Canaria guides section where we recommend more places to visit on the island, as well as restaurants that the locals frequent.
