Of all the Korean food we have tried in Gran Canaria, we can say that Kim’s Pojangmacha restaurant is one of our favorites. This 2023 has made a radical change of image and has become one of the trendiest restaurants in Las Palmas de Gran Canaria. Now Kim’s Korean food has a wider gastronomic offer and they have moved to Calle Galileo nº 9 to a super modern place with music. We tell you all about it below!

Kim’s Pojangmacha restaurant in Las Palmas
As we were saying, as well as changing location and having a completely renovated and modern restaurant, Kim Pojangmacha has now expanded its menu. If you knew it from when it was in Secretario Artiles, it only had four dishes. Now it is even difficult to choose. We’ll tell you what we’ve tried so far, everything is spectacular! Below, we show you one of the dishes they have always had, the vegetable pancake or Buchujeon, which you can now also order with prawns.

The bibimbap, on the other hand, has been improved in our opinion. This dish consists of rice, vegetables, marinated entrecote, fried egg and spicy sauce. The rice in the lower layer gets super crispy and is simply scrumptious. The spicy sauce comes on the side if you want to add more or less (or none at all). This dish can also be ordered without meat.

On the other hand, another of their essential Korean dishes that they have always had on their menu is the fried chicken with sweet and sour-spicy sauce or Dakgangjeong. I ate it (Ruth), even though I am not a fan of spicy food. Highly recommended.

Finally, one of the new additions we tried was their Korean pancake or Hotteok, a show! It has brown sugar and walnuts inside. They serve it with a scoop of vanilla ice cream. They also have mango mochis and cheesecake.

In terms of price, you used to be able to eat at their previous place for less than €15 per person. Now, taking into account that everything has gone up, the price is around 25€ per person. At least that’s what we paid for three courses, a dessert, two beers and two waters.
Contact and opening hours de contacto y horario
If you want to come and try homemade Korean cuisine at Kim’s Pojangmacha, you should ideally call for a reservation. It is in high demand. Currently, they are working with two shifts for dinner, one at 8:00 pm and the other at 10:00 pm. The place is small (not as small as it used to be), but as we say, it is very trendy and difficult to get a table. Especially at weekends. Remember that they are now in Galileo 9 street, just a few steps from Plaza de Farray. They are closed on Tuesdays and Wednesdays.
And that’s how Kim went from having a modest restaurant in the Santa Catalina Park area to being the restaurant of choice. By the way, as a curiosity, the word Pojangmacha is the name given in South Korea to the small street food stalls where you can find dishes like hotteok. Finally, we leave you with a photo of what their first pojangmacha was like for you to remember. Although the sign at the entrance has been kept in their new restaurant, we’ll be back!

Is the owners name Martin?
Hi Susan! I am not sure, but I don’t think so. I guess that he has a Korean name!
