Would you like to know the best places to run in Las Palmas de Gran Canaria? Whether on vacation or a few days for work, there are no excuses. Also, it’s a good way to get to know the most important places to visit in Las Palmas de Gran Canaria. Below we will mention you four wonderful options where you can run in the capital of the island. Keep reading if you want to know them!

Places to run in Las Palmas de Gran Canaria

The four ways to run through Las Palmas de Gran Canaria are quite attractive and safe, since you do not have to be crossing streets where cars pass by. They are the Parque Romano (Roman Park), Las Canteras beach, El Confital beach and the Maritime Avenue.

✔ Running at Parque Romano (Roman Park)

The Parque Romano is located in the heart of Las Palmas, very close to the marina, next to the Metropole Swimming Club. This park is practically dedicated to runners and the excellence place where to run in Las Palmas. It has 1 km circular of land and lawn area for exercises and even some gym equipment. In fact, practically all city runners train here. Also, many personal trainers have settled here to train their outdoor groups. The atmosphere in general is very good and there is night lighting.

In the Roman Park there are digital clocks every half kilometer so you can look at the time and measure your times. There are also some marks which show you different distances in order that yoy can make series. For your information, next to this runners park there is a children’s park with a cafeteria and bathrooms, as well as a dog park.

✔ Running along Las Canteras beach promenade (only from 10:00 pm to 8:00 am)

We recommend the route from La Puntilla to the viewpoint of El Atlante. There are approximately 5 kilometers per way. That is, 10 kilometers to run next to one of the best urban beaches in Spain: Las Canteras beach. Maybe this is one of the most beautiful options to run around Las Palmas de Gran Canaria, especially when the sun goes down and you can see the sunset at the same time. The negative of that time is that the promenade is quite crowded of walkers and you will have to dodge them. If you want to avoid this situation, try to go early in the morning or at night, since there is also lighting.

IMPORTANT: During the pandemic, they have prohibited playing sports on the Las Canteras promenade from 8:00 am in the morning to 10:00 pm.

If you are not staying nearby, we recommend you to park next to El Atlante viewpoint since here it is free and you can start running from that point. Do not leave any personal item in sight.

✔ Running in El Confital bay. The best place to run for trail runners

Very close to the beach of Las Canteras, we have the Confital beach. We already told you in the post about this beach that it is another idyllic place in Las Palmas de Gran Canaria to run. Why? Because you can run and have a panoramic view of Las Canteras bay. Keep in mind that here there is a section to run along the wooden walk. The rest of the route is along the dirt roads.

There is also a path to the top of the mountain of El Confital (Las Coloradas neighborhood). That means that there are not established kilometers or routes. You can even go to Las Canteras if you want to make a longer run, since there is a walk that connects both. Please take in mind that during the afternoon and night there is no lighting here.

✔ Running through the Avenida Marítima (Maritime Avenue)

The last alternative that we propose you where to run in Las Palmas de Gran Canaria is the Avenida Marítima (Maritime Avenue). The Avenida Marítima runs from La Laja Beach, where the Triton sculpture is, to the Royal Yacht Club of Gran Canaria, next to Las Alcaravaneras beach. There are 10 kilometers per way. That is, if you want to make the round trip there are 20 kilometers in total. A good workout if you are preparing a half marathon or a marathon.

The good thing about this route is that you will always have the sea by your side and that it is always illuminated. The bad thing is that all the way you have the access road to Las Palmas de Gran Canaria. And, with it, the contamination of all the cars that pass through that road. In any case, you will be able to appreciate several beautiful areas of the city: The beach of Las Alcaravaneras, the Marina, the fishing neighborhood of San Cristóbal and the La Laja beach.

Trail running in Las Palmas de Gran Canaria

Finally, if you are looking for a trail running route in Las Palmas for longer runs, we recommend the trail route through Los Giles with panoramic views of the whole city. However, it’s not as close as the four previous routes. If you want to discover the island running, we recommend you to visit the section of the website about trail running in Gran Canaria.
