In this post we mention the best viewpoints in Gran Canaria from our point of view. From these sites of the island you will be able to appreciate each of the contrasts of Gran Canaria. Let’s tell you about them all!
The best viewpoints of Gran Canaria
Below we list the 15 most spectacular viewpoints on the island. Gran Canaria is full of different type of landscapes… you are going to be amazed!
1. Corazón de Jesús viewpoint, Artenara
Despite its beauty, this viewpoint located in the town of Artenara is very little known. To get there, you have to go up a path with stairs bordering the La Cilla restaurant-cave, where there is another viewpoint. However, the views from the Christ are better, since they are 360 degrees.
2. Azuaje viewpoint, Moya/Firgas
3. Pico de Las Nieves viewpoint, Tejeda
From this point you can have a beautiful panoramic view of the Roque Nublo, its surroundings, as well as El Teide peak (if the day is clear). There are many trails in the area, go for a walk!
4. El Parralillo dam, Tejeda
If we drive from Tejeda towards La Aldea de San Nicolás we find the Parralillo Dam. This road is spectacular for the landscape it offers, especially when the dam carries water. Next to the viewpoint we find a mill like the one we see below.
5. Los Poetas viewpoint, Artenara
This one is not so easy to find. We recommend that you ask the locals how to get there once in Artenara.
6. Andén Verde viewpoint, La Aldea de San Nicolás
It is also known as Mirador del Balcón. From here you will be able to appreciate the well-known “dragon’s tail” that resembles the coastal landscape. It is located on the road between La Aldea de San Nicolás and Agaete, arriving at La Aldea. You will see the detour on the road.
7. La Sorrueda viewpoint, Santa Lucía de Tirajana
La Sorrueda is one of our favorite landscapes on the island. An oasis in the interior of Gran Canaria surrounded by Canarian palm groves. The most impressive thing is to see the majesty of the mountains, the dam with its large rock in the middle and the mix of flora that surrounds the dam. It is a very quiet area and ideal to relax.
8. Roque Nublo Natural Monument, Tejeda
Roque Nublo is one of the highest points on the island. That is why from here you can have one of the best views of the heart of Gran Canaria. Its pine forest and neighboring villages. Also Tenerife if the weather is good. There is a trail of approximately 1 hour (round trip) to reach Roque Nublo.
9. Degollada de Las Yeguas viewpoint, San Bartolomé de Tirajana
To get to this point it is best to go from Maspalomas towards Fataga direction the interior of Gran Canaria. You will find this lookout on the way. From here you can see on one side the sea and Dunes of Maspalomas and on the other side the mountains of Gran Canaria. The landscape will remind somehow to the famous North American canyons.
10. Unamuno viewpoint, Artenara
We know that we have already mentioned a few Artenara viewpoints, but each one has something special. This one is a must in Gran Canaria without a doubt. Both for the views and for the honor that Unamuno poet does.
11. Maspalomas Dunes viewpoint, San Bartolomé de Tirajana
If we enter the RIU Palace Maspalomas hotel and walk to the bottom, towards the sea, we will arrive at this viewpoint. From here you will have a panoramic view of the Dunes and the Maspalomas beach. Of course, for us the best view of this area is up on a dune, one dune far from the hotels.
12. Los Giles, Las Palmas de Gran Canaria
It is not a viewpoint at all, but from here you will have a unique panoramic view of Las Palmas de Gran Canaria with Las Canteras bay as the protagonist. To get there you will have to enter the town of Los Giles on your GPS and walk a little overland.
13. Pico de Bandama viewpoint, Santa Brígida
Without a doubt it is also one of the most beautiful viewpoints in Gran Canaria. From here you can see all of La Caldera of Bandama in the municipality of Santa Brígida. We encourage you to discover it with the hiking route that we propose here.
14. El Guriete viewpoint, Santa Lucía de Tirajana
On the way from Vecindario to Santa Lucía de Tirajana, we find the viewpoint El Guriete. From this point we can see the Las Tirajanas ravine, the palm grove that runs through it and La Fortaleza de Ansite. A very characteristic landscape of Gran Canaria, but at the same time little known.
15. El Farallón, Gáldar
There is no viewpoint enabled, but we guarantee that if you get to this point you will have incredible views of the Roque El Farallón, the coast of Sardina and Agaete. A show! Take the Botija coast road, that is, the one that connects Sardina del Norte and Agaete along the coast. Once there, deviate as soon as you see the way to a cheese factory between banana trees. Park and walk to the sea. You have more details about Sardina del Norte and how to get to this point here.
We know that we are leaving behind viewpoints such as that of Pinos de Gáldar, La Cilla, El Atlante, Playa de Tufia, that of El Pescador in Caleta, etc. But here we mention the 15 that we like the most. Do you know them? Leave us a comment mentioning the ones you’ve already been 🙂
