Tejeda is an inner town located about 1000 meters high. Its situation in Gran Canaria is practically in the middle. Nowadays, Tejeda belongs to a Spanish association with other beautiful towns from the country named Pueblos más bonitos de España (most beautiful towns of Spain).
Moreover, due to its location and high, it is one of the coldest towns in the island. So we recommend you to bring a jacket with you, especially in winter. Please consider that in winter they could be at less than 10 degrees during the day. Also, during winter the sky is usually cloudy and foggy, what makes it colder because of the humidity.
What can I see and do at Tejeda?
A walk trough the town: Tejeda is not that big, you can have a walk in 20 minutes to appreciate its beauty. The town is awesome, but the views from Roque Bentayga and its green mountains are wonderful.
Almond tree: In Tejeda there are a lot of almond trees. Moreover, during February and March you can appreciate its blossoms. An awesome white and pink blossom. In this town they have their own fest concerning the Almond tree which brings people from all over the island. During this fest you can enjoy all the Canary things: crafts, music, sports, local folklore. Furthermore, they set up some stalls to sell local products, most of them from food and of course almonds.
El Nublo bakery: this place was founded in 1946 and they focus their confectionery in the almonds from Tejeda. Its flagship product is the almond and the Bienmesabe. The Bienmesabe is a local product made principally of almonds, eggs and sugar. The Bienmesabe is usually eaten to accompany desserts like flan and vanilla ice cream. We eat it with pancakes at home and it is so yummy!
Center of medicinal plants: there is a center where you can check a wide variety of medicinal plants. You can even try them and know its properties. The entry is for free and you can also buy some plants if you want.
