The best fish & seafood restaurants in Gran Canaria

24/07/2023 Por Local Guide Gran Canaria Leave a Comment

This time we are going to tell you about what we consider to be the best seafood restaurants in Gran Canaria. We will take a look at the most typical places in Las Palmas de Gran Canaria, as well as in other parts of the island. This way, as well as eating well, you will be able to visit some of the most authentic places on the island. On the other hand, you should also take note of the typical fish of the Canary Islands, such as tuna, vieja (parrotfish), fula de altura (splendid alfonsino), sama (pink dentex) and the traditional white grouper from the Saharan coast. Among the molluscs, be sure to try the local octopus and the Saharan squid (my favourite). Now let’s move on to the restaurants, come and join us!

Restaurants to eat seafood in Gran Canaria

Here are our top 10 fish restaurants in Gran Canaria. If you would like to recommend any of them, you can leave a comment at the end of this article, we would love to hear from you.

1. Cofradía de Pescadores de Taliarte, Telde

Without a doubt, the Cofradía de Pescadores de Taliarte is our favourite restaurant in Gran Canaria to eat fish. Especially the fried fish, as they have confessed to us that the batter is made with chickpea flour and a touch of salt. You have to try the fried viejas fritas or the fula. Crazy! Make the most of your visit to this part of the island and discover all the things to do in Telde.

2. La Marisma, Moya

On the coast of Moya, in the first line we have the restaurant La Marisma. This restaurant always has very good raw materials: fish, seafood and meat from Gran Canaria. As soon as you arrive at the restaurant, you will see the display of fresh fish and seafood. We recommend you the fried rooster or the grilled cherne. A few steps away you have one of the natural pools of Gran Canaria that we recommend you to visit, El Altillo.

3. El Padrino, Las Palmas de GC

El Padrino is one of the best fish restaurants in Las Palmas de Gran Canaria. It is a lifelong place where in addition to eating good fish, they have traditional Canarian dishes such as potatoes with mojo sauce and gofio. The funny thing about this place is that they give you a plant every time you visit them to eat.

4. La Marinera, Las Palmas de GC

If you are looking for seafood restaurants in Las Canteras, La Marinera is one of the most famous and classic restaurants in Las Palmas de Gran Canaria. Here you can try the classic grilled or baked white grouper. A fish that is closely linked to Canarian cuisine and is finger-licking good. In addition, the gofio escaldado (with fish stock) is delicious.

El Rincón Canario is one of our most popular restaurants in the south of Gran Canaria if we want to eat fish. It is located on the beachfront of Playa del Águila and is a must on your visit to Gran Canaria. At least it is a restaurant that we would take those who come to visit us to the island. Here you can’t miss the fried parrot fish (vieja), one of the most typical fish of the Canary Islands.

In the fishing village Castillo del Romeral this great restaurant specialized in fish, seafood and rices is hidden. We love how they prepare the fried vieja with the gofio as side dish. They also have a yummy red tuna carpaccio. Liágora Canarias restaurant is not a well-known place, but whoever tries it, repeats.

Although this one is not 100% specialized in fish like all the previous ones, it has some spectacular fish dishes. This is the case of the smoked white grouper that we show you in the following image. Angor is located on the beachfront of Puerto de Las Nieves, in Agaete. Here we recommend the fried moray eel and the grilled redbanded seabream. It is a VERY well-known place among the locals, so if you plan to go on a weekend, we recommend you be there at 1:00 p.m., since they do not accept reservations.

This fish restaurant is located in the seafaring neighbourhood of San Cristóbal, on the outskirts of the capital. Here you can enjoy seafood delicacies such as a good grilled fish, octopus, calamari, etc. It also has incredible views of the sea. If we have to put a downside, sometimes the service is a little slow, but overall the views and the food make up for it.
