In this post we want to tell you about the best sandwiches in Gran Canaria. In Spain and, therefore, in the Canary Islands, the sandwich is part of our day to day, whether for breakfast, lunch, snack or dinner. On the island there are many places where you can eat a good sandwich: cafes, bars, juice bars, gas stations and even in any supermarket. In addition, each region of Spain can have its specialty of sandwiches, for example, the campero from Malaga, the serranito from Seville or the mythical from sobrasada of Mallorca.

The best sandwiches in Gran Canaria
In the case of Gran Canaria, roast pork leg sandwiches, as well as the ones of chorizo from Teror are the best known. However, there are cafes and bars where they serve you delicious calamari and cuttlefish sandwiches. Below we share the places that, according to our personal experience, serve the best sandwiches in Gran Canaria!
1. Bar Yazmina, one of the best sandwiches in Gran Canaria
If you want to try the famous sandwiches of roasted pork leg in Telde, one of the most mythical and well-known places is Bar Yazmina. Here, the service is one of the fastest on the island. It’s like a car factory, but for sandwiches. That is, as soon as you enter, a waiter takes your order, another prepares the sandwich, another serves you the drink, another charges you and when you least expect it, you already have your sandwich on the bar or ready to go. Don’t forget to leave a tip to hear all the waiters sing, BOOOOOTEEEEEEEEE!!! SIAAAAHHHH!!!!!

2. Teror chorizo, one of the must eat sandwiches in Gran Canaria
A unique and exclusive sandwich from Gran Canaria and, therefore, from Canarian cuisine, is chorizo from Teror. This sandwich is not usually found in cafes or bars at the street. Of course, if you go to the Teror market on a Sunday (which is where it is tastiest), you will find it in practically all the market stalls. You can order it with or without cheese, you choose!

3. Gourmet sandwiches at Oxean Bar, Perchel Beach Club
If you like gourmet sandwiches, the Oxean Bar at Perchel Beach Club has a very original menu. These signature sandwiches are designed by Canarian chef Borja Marrero and, as for the bread, you can choose between brioche, country or corn bread. You can also choose between calamari or octopus as the main ingredient. Finally, you can decide how you want the breading, from the most classic ones such as wheat, to mixtures of gofio and coriander, gofio and red mojo, oats and garden herb, spicy chickpea, wheat and crispy onion, etc. Below, you can see the calamari sandwich with grilled courgette, cream cheese, mint, roasted pineapple and sweet and sour mojo with country bread.

4. La Garriga, Las Palmas de Gran Canaria
La Garriga is another classic of sandwiches in Gran Canaria, more specifically in the city. In Las Palmas de Gran Canaria they have three stores distributed between the area of Las Canteras, Mesa y López and Triana. Their specialty sandwiches are tortilla with sausages, the one of sobrasada and also its chicken one. Every taste is delicious!

5. Vaquería Las Salinas, Arinaga
We continue with the mythical places to try the pata (roasted pork leg) sandwiches in Gran Canaria. You cannot miss La Vaquería de Las Salinas, in Arinaga. In addition, the place has a lot of charm and personality. You can even take the opportunity to visit Arinaga, which is great. Take a look at our full article about La Vaquería for more details. Enjoy your meal!

6. Restaurant Dos Hermanos, most famous calamari sandwich in Gran Canaria
One of the places that has the best calamari sandwiches in Gran Canaria is the Dos Hermanos Restaurant, in the town of Ojos de Garza. If you haven’t tried them yet, you’ve been missing something big. Ideally, you should have it warm there, otherwise the bread remains somewhat soft due to the heat of the squids. You can also buy it to take away to a nearby beach such as Ojos de Garza or Tufia. Yum!

7. El Sobrino, Telde
This place is the direct competition of Bar Yazmina, since both are located in the El Calero neighborhood. Here the roasted pork leg sandwiches fly, as they have a very good reputation on the island. Many locals think that this place is better than Yazmina, what do you think? Leave us a comment!

8. Casa Alonso, mackerel sandwich
As you can read, in Telde there are many places to eat delicious sandwiches. Casa Alonso’s is the legendary mackerel with everything, with canned mackerel, red onion and tomato. This place has been serving sandwiches of all kinds since 1969, making it a classic among the locals and many others who stop here when they are passing through.

9. Dorotea, Dorotea black Canarian pork snack
Although this is not a traditional sandwich, believe us that this pork sandwich is one of the best we have ever tasted. It’s made with shredded black Canarian pork cooked at low temperature, green mojo aioli and parmesan cheese. The bread is not just any bread, it’s a traditional egg bread. Spectacular! You can find this tasca in the beautiful Triana neighbourhood and it’s definitely a bite to try there, not to take away.

10. Miramar – Aeropuerto, cuttlefish sandwich
Another must is the cuttlefish sandwich at the Miramar Aeropuerto restaurant, also known as Mi Mar Aeropuerto. Here the sandwich, as in Dos Hermanos, is served with coleslaw, which is delicious. If you are on a tighter budget, the choco is cheaper than the Saharan calamari, so you can choose this one. Especially if you have to buy sandwiches for the whole family.

11. Mesón del bocadillo, Agaete
El Mesón del Bocadillo is one of our favorite places to eat in Agaete, whether you are walking around Puerto de Las Nieves, or if you need to recharge your batteries during your bike route and / or if you are on your way to Güigüi beach and want to take some sandwiches to spend the day. We have tried them on all three occasions and they are always a success. In addition, they include healthy options such as their breast sandwich, mozzarella, arugula and dried tomatoes.

We hope this article about the best sandwiches in Gran Canaria has been helpful to you.
