On this occasion we want to share with you the longest Tauro Enduro MTB route in the south of Gran Canaria. It is a one-way route, NOT CIRCULAR. Which means that you will have to go up by car (40 minutes from Arguineguín) or by road bike (depending on the rider it is about 2 hours on the El Pajar road). Even so, we assure you that it is worth it, since you will enjoy spectacular views.
Downhill in the south of Gran Canaria by bike
When driving up to the starting point, 90% of the route will be downhill. Which does not mean that you do not have to make any upload. The terrain is loose slab and earth to a greater extent. With a good grip, although the stones are jumping all the way and can hit the bike. The road is a lot of fun, so don’t let this stop you.
The route does not have excessively technical descents, if you go at a normal pace, you can see all the difficulties of the road without any problem.
Characteristics of the Tauro bike route
This route is perfect to do on an Enduro bike, as it is 90% downhill, a 16 or 17cm full suspension bike would be ideal (although I did it perfectly with a 14/13cm suspension bike).
Distance | 21,3 km |
Total ascent | 471 m |
Total descent | 1.385 m |
Estimated duration | 2/3 hours |
Minimum drink | 500 ml |
Minimum food | 500 kcal |
Provisioning during the track | No |
Technical level | Medium |
Recommended bike | Enduro/All Mountain |
Keep in mind that at the beginning of the route, you will have to carry the bicycle for a couple of kilometers, unless you go by electric bicycle. We left a car in El Pajar de Arguineguín and went up with the other cars and the bikes to the starting point of the track. Here you can park without problem to start the bike route.
✔ Things to consider before doing the route of Tauro
Bring enough water and food to complete the entire route. The track does not go through any store for provisioning. We also recommend you to carry spare tubes, because the rocks can easily puncture them.
