Restaurants in Agaete: fresh fish and local food

12/07/2023 Por Local Guide Gran Canaria Leave a Comment

If you are looking for restaurants in Agaete, here we are going to mention our favorite places. As you may know, there is a wide range of restaurants and they all seem the same. Don’t worry, keep reading and we will help you clear up your doubts. Puerto de Las Nieves is one of the fishing villages of Gran Canaria. Therefore, it is a good place to eat fish and seafood on the island. Anyway, if you don’t eat fish, we will give you other alternatives. Here we go!

Restaurants in Agaete

✔ Restaurant La Quisquilla, Cordial Roca Negra Hotel

La Quisquilla restaurant we have known recently and we liked it very much. Here you will find both seafood, meat and rice. We loved their shrimp salad, chickpeas with black pig and goat dumplings. The desserts we tried were also brutal. This restaurant is just in front of the Occidental Roca Negra hotel and it actually belongs to it.

✔ Angor restaurant, Puerto de Las Nieves

This site is located right on the beachfront of Las Nieves. Of those on the avenue, it is the one with the best fame among the locals. We suggest you order the fried moray eel and the grilled redbanded seabream. It is a VERY demanded site, so if you plan to go on a weekend, we recommend you be there at 1:00 p.m. Angor restaurant is one of our recommended places to eat fish in Gran Canaria.

✔ Restaurant Casa Romántica, Agaete Valley

If you are really looking for a unique gastronomic experience in Agaete, do not hesitate to visit the Casa Romantica restaurant in the Agaete Valley. You can enjoy one of their tasting menus the Tomás Morales from €52 per person (6 passes) or the Alonso Quesada from €65 per person (7 passes). You can also order a la carte. We shared the long menu so we could try some of the dishes from the menu. Everything is spectacular and, the best thing is that here they promote local produce with fresh fish from Agaete, coffee from the Valley, Canary Island wines, Canary Island cheeses, etc. Even the olive oil and salt that accompany the bread of Ingenio are from Gran Canaria. We recommend to book in advance.

✔ El Cápita restaurant, Puerto de Las Nieves

It is a very cozy place with a friendly service and spectacular views of Puerto de Las Nieves. From its dining room you can also see Villa Tonina, one of the most beautiful houses in Agaete. They are the views that we showed you in the photo at the beginning. In addition to the good atmosphere here, you can eat a tray of fried fresh fish with Canarian potatoes for a very reasonable price. Both here and in Angor you can try typical Canarian food such as the gofio.

✔ Casa Lolo, Valle de Agaete

Another restaurant in Agaete that we recommend is Casa Lolo, in Agaete Valley. It is a kind of “bochinche” where we highlight its salad with fruits. They also do good meat and grilled squid.

✔ Mesón del bocadillo, Puerto de Las Nieves

Another alternative where to eat in Agaete is the Mesón del Bocadillo. This place has become a classic every time we go on an excursion in this area of the island, either for a pit stop during a bike ride or simply to eat a delicious sandwich on the beach. Here you will find a wide variety of sandwiches and unusual flavours. The place is small, so we recommend buying to take away. It is always a better option to enjoy it sitting in the Puerto de Las Nieves than inside the bar.

✔ Refugio El Hornillo, El Hornillo small village

For lunch in the mountains of Agaete we definitely recommend the Refugio El Hornillo, ideal to combine with a hiking route through El Hornillo and El Sao. We highlight the homemade bread baked in the refuge with local cheeses, the fennel stew and the stewed goat meat. All this in a small village of cave houses overlooking the ravine of Agaete. However, we recommend you contact them before you go as they sometimes close randomly.

Other restaurants that have a good reputation in Agaete and that we have not yet been able to try are the mythical Bar Perola, Hondo Café and Casa Romántica, the last two of which are more innovative. Do you recommend any that are not on the list?
