We couldn’t avoid in our blog a post about Puerto de Mogán village. Puerto de Mogán is located in the southwest part of the island at Mogán municipality. It is a small fisherman village with its beach and other charms. It is also known as the little Venice, since it has some canals with its bridges. However, it has nothing to do with Venice. Puerto de Mogán has other many good reasons why it is worth visiting. It is true that it is one of the most touristic parts from the island, but we consider that if you visit Gran Canaria, you must know it.
Puerto de Mogán village

1. Sun the whole year
It could be said that here the sun is always shining and at least if someday is cloudy, it will never be cold. It is known that the Puerto de Mogán is one of the regions from Europe with more days of sun during the year. So that, a nice temperature during the whole year. That is why is a happy village and the residents will always receive you with kindness. Please consider that due to its location at the southwest part of Gran Canaria, from here you can also enjoy a beautiful sunset.
2. Puerto de Mogán beach
In this village there is one beach named Mogan beach. It is not that big, about 200 meters long. However, it is ideal to get here with kids, since it is quite sheltered because of the port and the mountains and because of it there is no wind and waves. It is also a very touristic beach. However, you should know that there are some areas to sunbathe, at the sand or even at the rocks and stones which are at the end of the beach. The water is cleaner and more fresh at the stones side and there is also less people.
3. Restaurants in Puerto de Mogán
As Puerto in Spanish means port, you should know that it is a fishermen’s village. For years, the restaurant “Cofradía de Pescadores” offers fresh seafood and fish caught at the same coast of Mogán. In addition to fish, it offers other Canarian food in its menu such as the avocado from Mogán, very well known in Gran Canaria. We also recommend you the Beach Club Faro restaurant, with the best views of Puerto de Mogán and yummy food.
Finally, you have the option of tasting a one star Michelin restaurant: Los Guayres. It is located in the Cordial Mogán Playa restaurant.
4. Walk through its white houses with colorful touches
At the port there is also a esplanade with yachts surrounded by beautiful white houses with colorful lines, so as bougainvilleas climbing up its walls. The whole landscape is lovely and, therefore, very photographed by tourists and locals who visit it. We show you some examples below.
5. Family plans Puerto de Mogán: the yellow submarine
In addition to the beach as a playground for children, in Puerto de Mogán there is a tourist attraction which takes you to the marine species of the area in a submarine. The yellow submarine from Puerto de Mogán is known by several generations of the Gran Canaria residents. In this case, we will let you know the new version of it. Book here your yellow submarine tour. We had the chance to submerge in the old one in the 90s. On the other hand, as you may check in the following picture you can also rent some water sledges and sail a bit.
6. Have an ice-cream in Gelatomanía
In our last visit to Puerto de Mogán we had the chance to try the artisan ice-creams at Gelatomanía. This ice-cream parlor is located at the sea promenade from Playa de Mogán, so you will find it. There is a wide variety of Italian artisan ice-creams. In fact, we think that the owners are Italian, since most of the staff were from this nationality. Moreover, they announced that in their recipe there is no added sugar. They are so yummy and you can enjoy them in the beachfront. What a great plan!
Finally, you should consider that Puerto de Mogán is a very touristic place. So that, you will find some souvenir shops, pizzerias, sun beds, umbrellas and so on. However, as we mentioned, if you are planing to stay some days at Gran Canaria, this visit is in our top 5 of the island.
7. Enjoy the sunset in Puerto de Mogán village
In Puerto de Mogán you can enjoy one of the best sunsets in Gran Canaria. To get to this point, you must walk towards the pier and, before reaching the fishermen’s guild, walk straight towards the sea, next to the mountain. There is a small path by which you reach these views. If you get lost, ask the locals in the area, as it is not signposted.
