Things to do in Playa del Inglés, local tips and restaurants

09/10/2022 Por Local Guide Gran Canaria Leave a Comment

In this post we are going to mention you all the things to do in Playa del Inglés. It is located in the municipality of San Bartolomé de Tirajana, in the south of Gran Canaria and is one of the most touristic places on the island. This is so because when the tourist boom took place, here is where all the all-inclusive hotels in Playa del Inglés, the Irish bars and pubs, the junk food restaurants, crappy souvenir shops, etc. were built. Therefore, it is the cradle of mass tourism and where you will possibly find the cheapest hotels in Gran Canaria. This does not mean that we cannot see the most beautiful side of Playa del inglés. Below we will tell you all the charms of this beach, restaurants and things to do around!

Things to do in Playa del Inglés, Gran Canaria

Once you have been warned that Playa del Inglés is one of the most touristic places to visit in Gran Canaria, we are going to show you its most beautiful side. First of all, you should know that Playa del Inglés has a spectacular beach with golden sand and calm waters. It is approximately 3 kilometers from where El Cochino beach ends to its junction with Maspalomas beach. Outside of the sand, this tourist area of San Bartolomé de Tirajana is surrounded by places for tourists, but we are going to do everything possible so that you enjoy it to the fullest. Here we go!

✔ Walk Playa del Inglés – Maspalomas, one of the best things to do in Playa del Inglés

A walk from El Inglés to the Maspalomas Lighthouse is undoubtedly one of the best things to do in Gran Canaria. In addition, there is a nudist area and today there are few places where you can sunbathe naked. In addition, here you will be accompanied by the famous Dunes of Maspalomas.

✔ Walk Playa del Inglés – San Agustín

From the other end of the beach, in the direction of Las Palmas, we can also walk until we reach the beautiful beach of San Agustín. During this walk there will be parts that you must go through the sand (Cochino beach), but the part that passes through Las Burras beach you can go along a nice promenade.

✔ Holiday World Maspalomas. Things to do in Playa del inglés with kids

Between Maspalomas and Playa del Inglés, we find the theme park Holiday World Maspalomas Center to enjoy with the family. It also has activities for adults such as its escape rooms, karaoke and bowling alleys. Finally, it has also a wide gastronomic offer in its Nomad Gastro Market.

If you are going to visit the park during the summer months, Easter and/or weekends, we recommend buying your ticket online to avoid queues. Another theme park near Playa del Inglés is Sioux City. This park is completely aimed at children. Sioux City represents a Wild West town. Cowboy shows and dances take place here and they also have a small zoo. On the other hand, another things to do in Playa del Inglés with kids are the Aqualand Maspalomas water park and the small Gran Canaria zoo named Palmitos Park.

✔ Water sports. Things to do in Playa del Inglés

If you like water sports, on this beach you can do practically any activity related to water sports 365 days a year thanks to its good weather. For example, rental of jet skis, skates, windsurf sails, surf lessons, kitesurf, parasailing, etc. On the other hand, if during your vacation you are looking for boat trips, it is better to go to the areas of Puerto Rico or Puerto de Mogán.

✔ Active tourism

From the south of Gran Canaria you can carry out various active tourism activities. For example, one of the best MTB initiation routes through the Ayagaures ravine that we explain in the cycling section of our blog.

Another option is to rent a buggy excursion through the mountains and trails in the south of the island. You can take a look below.

✔ Maspalomas Carnival. Places to visit in Playa del Inglés

Although it is known for the Maspalomas Carnival, this massive party also takes place in Playa del Inglés. It is one of the most fun in Gran Canaria, especially its Great Parade and Carnival During the Day.

✔ Nightlife Playa del Inglés

The nightlife in this area of Gran Canaria is quite well known. This is where a large part of the locals and visitors party because of the wide range of places to have a good time. We suggest the Pacha Gran Canaria nightclub, a few steps from the Kasbah shopping center. The truth is that the whole area is quite touristy, but if you go in good company, you will surely have a great time wherever you go. You also have the option of going out at the Yumbo shopping center, known as the epicenter of gay tourism in Gran Canaria.

✔ Enjoy the sunrise, one of the best things to do in Playa del Inglés

Either if you get up early or if you are at dawn after a good party, from Playa del Inglés you can see a spectacular sunrise like the one we show you below. On the other hand, if you want to see the sunset, better from Maspalomas or from a dune.

How to get to Playa del Inglés

To get to Playa del Inglés from the airport it takes approximately 30 minutes. If you go by public transport you can take the bus number 66 or 90. On the other hand, another faster option that many travelers choose is the private transfer. In this way, you do not depend on the bus schedules. You can look at the prices and the reviews of other users here.

Finally, if you would like to know the most authentic side of Gran Canaria, we invite you to browse here to get closer to its towns, beaches, markets, hiking trails, restaurants that locals frequent, etc. If you don’t have time and would like to leave everything in our hands, we invite you to take a look at our section of digital guides of the island.
