Playa del Pirata, the secret beach of the locals

04/08/2022 Por Local Guide Gran Canaria Leave a Comment

Pirata beach is one of the most beautiful beaches in the south of Gran Canaria. Probably because it is quite hidden and it is difficult to access. Pirata beach is between Águila beach and San Agustín beach. It is also named Morro Besudo beach. We tell you below how to get there and the main characteristics of the beach. Let’s go!

How to get to Pirata beach

There are two ways to get to Pirate Beach. None of them is recommended for people with reduced mobility, since there are stairs on both sides. In the same way, the access with a baby trolley is difficult, unless there is a strong person in the family.

  • Access from the top of San Agustín beach. You can enter the Abora Interclub Atlantic hotel on your navigator and park in the hotel surroundings. Once there you must go down some small stairs towards the sea. Then you will find a path like the one shown below. If you are lost, ask someone you see in the area.

As you can see in the following photo, if you continue along the promenade by the sea, you will reach the stairs that we show below. These stairs go directly to the beach. There are quite a few steps, so you better not forget anything in the car 🙂

  • Access from Playa del Águila, you must introduce the Marinasol apartments on your navigator or Google maps. Once you have passed the apartments, you will see some stairs going down to the left (shown below). There is also a sign which shows the beach in question and says “LA PLAYA” and “ZUM STRAND” in German. Park where you can and where it is legal of course hehe 🙂

Later you must advance a little along this path until you reach the promenade next to the sea. Here you will see several coves with different stairs to go down. Choose the one you like the most.

The coves of Pirata beach

As we said before, if you come from Playa del Águila, there are different coves on the promenade that you can descend to. Some have more boulders than others and when the tide is low they all connect to each other forming a great beach.

As you can see, despite its natural beauty, this area of the island is not busy at all. Probably due to his ignorance and lack of services such as toilets, surveillance, sun beds and water sports. However, for us it is one of the best beaches of Gran Canaria. The sea is also usually calm here, so we recommend it for families. Anyway, remember that the access is with stairs in all cases. Enjoy it!

Video of the beach

Below we leave you with a short video of the beach so you can get an idea of what it is like. We are waiting for you on our YouTube channel with more videos about things to do in Gran Canaria!

Restaurants nearby to Pirata beach

Just 2 minutes by car or 10 walking, you have the El Rincón Canario restaurant. This one is at the Águila beach. It is one of our favorite places to eat overlooking the sea of Gran Canaria. There are very few places like this with local food in Gran Canaria. We recommend you to order the salad with watercress, the Canarian potatoes (shown below) and the baby squids. Enjoy your meal!

We hope you liked knowing this new point of Gran Canaria. Our most precious secret, a place to disconnect. If you want to continue discovering beaches and restaurants like the ones we tell you about in this post, we recommend you take a look at our Gran Canaria Guides. Here you will find plans to discover the most authentic side of the island, both for its gastronomy and for its most remote places.
