Circular route through Ayagaures for beginners

31/07/2020 Por Local Guide Gran Canaria

In this post we want to tell you how was our first experience in a mountain bike route in Ayagaures, in the south part from Gran Canaria. We rented the bike at Free Motion at their office in Playa del Inglés. We left from there direction Ayagaures village. It wasn’t difficult for us to find the way because we already knew the route.

If you do not have much experience, we recommend you to arrange an excursion with Free Motion. Especially because the mountain bike route through Ayagaures is quite desert and we don’t want you to see yourself in a difficult situation because of us. However, we can always help you if you have some experience and you even want to do it by yourself. Do not hesitate to ask us for advice!

Mountain bike route in Ayagaures

First, you should know that the mountain bike route through Ayagaures is circular and there are almost 43 kilometers. In total it took us around 4 hours to finish the trail. In this part of Gran Canaria is quite sunny and there is no breeze even in winter because it is located in the south. Keep in mind that we went in March and it was too hot, since the ocean is quite far. Therefore, the experience is quite hard, but grateful. At the end of this article, we leave you the track of the route.

As you may check in the map below, the tour departs from Playa del Inglés. To make the mountain bike route through Ayagaures you have to ride direction Maspalomas Clinic and enter the ravine. First, you will pass Aqualand Maspalomas, then you will see a very special place called Montecristo. If you keep riding in the same road you will reach Ayagaures village. In this town you can make the first stop and buy some water. We even recommend you to eat a sandwich, since there are some bars around. The rest of the way is all desert, so that you have to try to recover yourself here.

This route is mostly recommended to start riding a mountain bike, since most of the trail is flat. Take in mind that Gran Canaria is quite hilly and finding this kind of flat routes in the middle of the nature is very difficult. This means that the slopes normally are much more steeper.

Tips for making this mountain bike route in Ayagaures

  1. First of all, you have to be fit in case you want to finish the Ayagaures trail. There are 4 hours pedaling under the sun.
  2. Take enough water with you. Try to fill in your bottle at Ayagaures village.
  3. Use sunscreen, there are many hours in the sun without protection
  4. The less you charge, the lighter you are… Take in your maillot some fruit as a banana or dates which can save you if you feel weak.
  5. Make a stop at Ayagaures village to recover and know a new place

The bike maillot is from the brand Chela Clo. We bought it at Regaliz Funwear. We wrote about this shop in our previous post. As you may check, the maillots are uniques and super originals. Can you imagine yourself riding in your country with such a funny maillot? Now you know how they look like and where to find them!
