The highest point of Gran Canaria is not the Pico de Las Nieves

What if we told you that the highest point of Gran Canaria is the Morro de La Agujereada? Despite what many people from Gran Canaria may believe, the top of Gran Canaria is not Pico de Las Nieves, nor Roque Nublo. Next, we are going to give you more details about the highest peak on the island in case you want to visit it.

The highest point of Gran Canaria: Morro de La Agujereada

Apparently the Pico de Las Nieves has a height of 1949 meters (1950 meters according to Grafcan). On the other hand, the Morro de La Agujereada surpasses it by 6 meters reaching an altitude of 1956 meters. We can see this last data if we enlarge the previous photo, official signage of the Cabildo de Gran Canaria. Therefore, we can say that the highest point of Gran Canaria is the Morro de La Agujereada.

We can finally demystify that the highest peak in Gran Canaria is the Pico de Las Nieves, it has been dethroned by a little known and promoted “Morro”.

How to get to Morro de La Agujereada

If you want to see the Morro de La Agujereada up close, you can do it perfectly from the viewpoint Mirador del Pico de Los Pozos de Las Nieves. Once at the viewpoint, you can carefully descend by jumping the low wall towards the peak or hill that we show you in the previous photo. It is not an official trail, so be careful. In any case, it can be seen perfectly from the viewpoint, without having to walk any path. It is important that you wear warm clothing and appropriate footwear to walk around the area.

As you may know, from this viewpoint you can also walk to the Ventana del Nublo or Ventana Gañifa (Nublo Window or Gañifa Window). Another unofficial trail, just for adventurers and photographers.

We believe that the name “Morro de La Agujereada” may be due to the fact that under this mountain there is a hole (agujero in Spanish) like the one we show you below. You should know that this peak is also called Morro de Gañifa, in case you have heard it before. However, in the panoramic map that we showed you at the beginning, it does not appear that way.
