Circular from Bahía Feliz to Aldea Blanca

08/09/2020 Por Local Guide Gran Canaria

This circular route by Gravel Bike around Bahía Feliz Aldea Blanca is perfect to start with the gravel or Mountain bikes in the south of the island of Gran Canaria. The route has little unevenness and there are hardly any relevant climbs. On the other hand, technically it only has a short stone descent that can be perfectly done on foot, through the Aldea Blanca area.

Being a circular route, you could do it both ways. Of course, keep in mind that the most normal thing is that the wind blows from north to south. In our case, we started the route inside the highway, withstanding the headwind. The positive thing is that due to the orography of the mountains if we make the route in this sense, we will be protected from the wind at various times.

Characteristics of the gravel bike route around Bahía Feliz

Distance30 km
Total ascent294 m
Duration2-3 hours
Technical levelEasy

What places can I visit during the route?

The first part runs along desert roads near a cement factory until we reach Aldea Blanca among tomato growers. We will pass near a racetrack and a wind turbine plant that ends in the sea. Moreover, you will also see a motocross circuit where there are usually people on weekends. There is also a seabird reserve and an abandoned salt mine near the town of Castillo del Romeral. Finally we will skirt several beaches.

Although you can do the route at any time, if you manage to do the area of El Castillo del Romeral with the sunset, you can see beautiful views while pedaling.

How many food and water do I need?

We will not really go through any “urban center”, but we will have the towns of Aldea Blanca and Castillo del Romeral halfway through in case we have an emergency. Possibly with only 750 ml of water and 400 kcal of food is enough, but it is always interesting to bring something else just in case.

With what kind of bike can I do this route?

You can go perfectly with a Gravel Bike. They are possibly the most suitable together with XC hardtail MTBs to undertake this route, since almost everything runs on a track with no technical difficulty without much unevenness.

As we said at the beginning, this route is perfect to get started in the world of Mountain Bike with any bike, since it has few climbs and does not have much technical difficulty. The only thing you have to take into account is the wind forecast.
