Fuji restaurant, the first Japanese in Spain

08/02/2021 Por Local Guide Gran Canaria

In this post we are going to talk about Fuji restaurant in Las Palmas de Gran Canaria. This was the first Japanese which opened in Spain. Japanese cuisine is becoming trendy and today we want to let you know about one of the best Japanese restaurants in Las Palmas de GC. The restaurant Fuji offers creative Japanese cuisine and also offers the traditional dishes from this country as the soups, sushis and sashimis.

For us, the best part of the menu are the special sushis which you will have to order per piece. Also the red tuna and butterfish carpaccio. As usually, we leave you below with our recommendations:

Sushi per piece: flambé prawn, quail egg with truffle and foie.

From the three above mentioned sushis per piece, we would not know which one to choose, the three of them are awesome. You will experience an explosion of flavor which you won’t be able to describe as it happened to us.

On the other hand, lately they have as a recommendation from the day the red tuna carpaccio with truffle and season’s fruit. We have tried it once with kiwi and another time with mango, both combinations are delicious. The layer of fruit and avocado is hidden under the tuna.

Salmon tartar

You should also try the salmon tartar that is usually out of the menu. It’s delicious, but it comes with some bad quality crackers.

Tendon: tempura, rice and sauce

Finally, we recommend you the vegetables and shrimp tempura. They prepare it very nice. It comes with rice and a sauce to dip. The best with difference is the parsley. We love it!

Regarding the desserts, you should try the green tea ice cream and the cheesecake mochi are spectacular and unique. Believe us.

Finally, concerning the price, if you order wine you will pay around 30 euros per person. You know that the Japanese restaurants are expensive, so as the fish is.

Fuji restaurant reservations

Please consider that because of the small size of the restaurant, so as its popularity, you should book with at least one week in advance to the following number: +34928261393. The Fuji restaurant is located at the 56, Fernando Guanarteme street, Las Palmas de Gran Canaria. Very near from Las Canteras beach. They are open from Tuesday to Saturday from 1:30 to 4:00 pm and from 8:30 to 11:00 pm. On Sundays they only open for lunch and on Monday they are closed.

History from Fuji restaurant

As they mention in their menu, the restaurant Fuji…:

…was founded in april 1967 by Mr. Sato, being the first Japanese restaurant in Spain. In those times they only served to the Japanese sailors which stopped in La Luz port, basically because of the ignorance from the oriental food by the locals.

Thanks to the nordic tourists in Gran Canaria, who already knew the Japanese cuisine, the restaurant became well known and finally popular in the island.

If we have to say something negative from it, is that the restaurant is quite old and in some of the tables there is no privacy because the tables are so close to each other, since it is quite small. However, the raw material quality and its fusion of flavors are worth it.
