In your list of things to see and do in Gran Canaria you can not miss a visit to the town of Fataga. Just because of the road with spectacular views of the mountains and valley of a thousand palm trees you will be amazed. In this route of only 15 minutes drive from Maspalomas to the town of Fataga you can appreciate unique landscapes. Your local guide of Gran Canaria will recommend you a number of stops to make your visit as complete as possible. Let’s start!

Valley of a thousand palm trees

1. Viewpoint Degollada de las Yeguas

First, we recommend you a stop at the viewpoint Degollada de las Yeguas. Here you can park the car without problem. Like all viewpoints, you will appreciate beautiful views. In this case we can see, on the one hand, Maspalomas and its dunes.

And, on the other, we will have views of the Fataga Ravine, Arteara, Amurga Massif and spectacular mountains.

2. Small village and archaeological site of Arteara

Arteara is a pretty village made up of a few old white houses. Its beauty does not give rise to doubts for the singular landscape that surrounds it of mountains and Canarian palm grove.

It is located in the Fataga ravine, one of the oldest on the island, with around 9 million years. Also, in this ravine there is an archaeological site that you can visit: the necropolis of Arteara.

It is the largest and most representative aboriginal cemetery on Gran Canaria with about 900 tombs. Access has a cost of € 4. It includes several trails and the visit to its interpretation center. In addition, it is open every day of the year from 10:00 am to 2:00 pm.

On the other hand, despite looking like an uninhabited site, here lives the Canary lizard, endemic from Gran Canaria. This animal can reach 80 cm, being one of the largest lizards in the world.

Finally, if you are traveling with children, you should know that the ravine and its oasis of palm trees can be traveled by camel. You can book here your camel ride in Fataga valley.

3. Finca Canarias Aloe Vera

Then, on the way from Arteara to Fataga, you will come across a spectacular aloe vera ecological farm: the Finca Canarias Aloe Vera. The visit and access is totally free and enriching, since they explain all the properties of this plant and the benefits that will bring you.

4. Fataga town

In the same way, a few steps from the aloe farm is the village of Fataga. Here you will appreciate its beautiful white houses with tiles, some of them with stones on their walls. In addition, here the houses carry the names of their owners from the outside. You can also visit the church square and let yourself be surprised by the delicious Canarian food.

In addition, in this village lives a landscape of palm trees and Canarian pine forest, something very unusual and worth seeing too. And it is that the Fataga rises on the ravine of the thousand palm trees and in the majestic mountains that surround it the Canarian pine grows.

5. El Albaricoque restaurant

Also, if you are in the area, you can not miss the delicious Canarian food tasting. Our recommendation certainly goes to El Albaricoque restaurant. Here you can try homemade local food at a great price. We recommend the Canarian salad with avocado from Fataga and cheese from Tejeda and the vegetable stew from their own harvest. Also, as a dessert you can not miss the pumpkin pancakes with apricot jam, also grown here and homemade. Enjoy your meal!
