This enduro route through San Mateo starts from the small town of Las Lagunetas and, being a circular route, it also ends at this point. It is one of the most beautiful enduro routes on the summit of Gran Canaria.

Circular enduro route through the summit of Gran Canaria
The route begins going up asphalt from the Las Lagunetas area until it forks onto a concrete track that quickly becomes a trail. This path is 80% cyclable, although it is quite steep and will depend on your physical condition. There are some parts that we will have to carry the bike, but without much difficulty. Surely the one who rides an electric bike could do almost everything on the bike.

The path runs through meadows with few trees, which leaves us with spectacular views of Las Palmas de Gran Canaria and the mountains of the island. It is a route that is quite enjoyed because of how cyclable it is. The track passes through Los Llanos de Ana López and links up with an uphill path that ends at a kiosk in Los Llanos de La Pez. Here you can buy some fruit, sweets, sandwiches and water.

From this point it goes up to Las Bolas del Pico de Las Nieves. And once at the top, the mythical descent towards Las Mesas begins, but for two interesting and different variants to the usual downhill. Very fun and with stone splices that are very much enjoyed.

When we got to Las Mesas, we went up again by a variant of a dirt track for about 20/30 minutes. After that you will go back down a very fun and winding path. This path has slopes and small junctions as if it were a Bike park. At the end of this loop, we go down the path again to the Los Llanos de la Pez junction. It certainly makes it much more fun going down than going up.
Is this route recommendable?
Of course. It is a very fun route, relatively short in kilometers, but with almost 1000m of slope. Almost the entire ride uphill, 3 places where you can buy food / water and very fun descents. If a sunny day suits you, all the better. But you could also do it on a rainy day, because this terrain holds water well and does not get too muddy.
