Los Chorros – Dh La Fortaleza – Dh El Picacho – Arucas ravine – Machacadora – Firgas trails – Los Chorros
Enduro through Los Chorros
We leave from the junction of Los Chorros. Here is a typical restaurant in the area for eating local food that is on top of Firgas town, on the way to Valleseco. We chose this place because it has a wide parking area where you can leave your car and go to eat after the route.
What type of bike is needed for this enduro route through Firgas?
For this enduro route through Firgas ideally we would recommend it in a bike with double suspension of from 12cm to 16cm. That is, All Mountain or Enduro bikes. Since we are going to go through areas of technical descent and we will also have to make prolonged ascents.
We start the route going up
Once you leave the parking lot of Los Chorros by the main road, we will leave on the left of the road and climb a steep slope of red earth. We cross a small neighboring road and follow the path behind the chain. And we will continue climbing, even walking between some canes until we reach the exit of Dh La Fortaleza with spectacular views.
Down hill La Fortaleza in Mountain Bike
This is one of the most legendary downhill tracks in the area of Firgas. Red earth, perfect for making small jumps and superelevations that make it very fun, although somewhat short. It ends on the main road of Los Castillos, where we turn left towards Teror, until a roundabout where there is a gas station. At that point we turn left towards Arucas (all this by road, the longest asphalt part of the route). A little later, we leave the main road direction to the mountain of El Picacho. After an asphalt slope, we reach the entrance to a dirt road, where the good part starts.
El Picacho mountain
In this mountain of stuck stone and hard earth, there are thousands of roads. It is practically a natural bike park on the island of Gran Canaria, where many of the riders of Las Palmas de Gran Canaria come to train. For the convenience of having a good parking, close to the capital (10 minutes by car) and infinite roads of different levels. Even at the highest technical level, since only a few Canarian riders pass through here.
On this day, we went through one not very well known, near two ponds and a the mountain border with beautiful views to Arucas. It takes between 8 and 20 minutes to complete the down hill, depending on the level of each one. We will go through quite technical stone areas. Be careful with them, especially if the area is wet.
Once we have left the Dh, we leave the football fields and the bar Barreto behind, we get under the Arucas road through a small ravine between canes there. Here you will have to ride over boulders and cross the village passing a couple of tunnels. Then, a little further on, after passing an area full of canes, you must leave the dirt road to go up by road to the town of La Goleta.
Ascent by a variante from La Machacadora
Entering through a small children’s park in La Goleta, we go down a bit to cross between two water dams. Where they start some beautiful paths among pines. We start the strong and sinuous technical climb, which leaves us in a few houses before La Machacadora. We will ride through the path of these houses to practically crown the mountain of La Machacadora. Also, with less effort than if we went up the main road. We continue until we touch a small neighboring road. And we end up in the royal canal until we reach the road that leads to the town of La Cruz.
Firgas paths with the mountain bike
At the roundabout in the village of La Cruz, turn right towards the village of Firgas. When you find the main road, cross to enter between some houses on red dirt paths. Although it is a rise, it is quite fun. Next, bordering the general road we will arrive to the highway of Los Chorros, where we started this route.
