Central Market of Las Palmas de Gran Canaria, buy local

26/04/2022 Por Local Guide Gran Canaria Leave a Comment

The Central Market is the largest of the markets in the city of the capital of Gran Canaria. It is located in the commercial area of Avenida José Mesa y López. It has more than 120 stalls spread over two floors. Here you will find different food stalls in a totally local environment. As we see it, it is one of the places to visit in Las Palmas de Gran Canaria along with Vegueta market.

Central Market of Las Palmas de Gran Canaria

The central market of the capital is a traditional market, so here you will be able to buy products to take with you and cook at home. That is to say, it is not a market with places to eat on the spot. This does not mean that you cannot enjoy the good local atmosphere that is breathed and buy some gastronomic souvenir. Next we will mention the different stalls that the Central Market of Las Palmas has, let’s go!

✔ Fruit and vegetable stalls

The fruit stands may not be as pretty as the Vegueta market ones, but here you will find more variety and, therefore, possibly better prices.

✔ Coffee freshly ground

There is a nice coffee shop with varieties from the world where you grind the grain at the moment. It is highly recommend you if you are a lover of this drink.

✔ Cheese, sausages and eggs

If Gran Canaria has something to boast about, it is undoubtedly its cheeses. Acquire cheeses from the island here to take the best souvenir back home. There are also cold cuts and fresh eggs. They also usually have sweet Canarian black pudding and chorizo from Teror.

✔ Butcher shop

In the central market there is a part dedicated only to meats of different types. The best of the best is here without a doubt.

✔ Fish shop

As with local meat, there is a little corner dedicated to fish. Some are caught on the coasts of the island and others brought from our neighboring West Africa.

✔ Bakery and florist

It has a good artisan bread stall from different parts of Gran Canaria that you can not miss during your visit. Sometimes they let you taste it. On the other hand, in the florist you will find all the flowers you are looking for.

✔ Food to take away

If you live in Gran Canaria and did not know it, in the Central Market you can buy prepared or semi-prepared dishes to cook at home. For example, croquettes already fried or without being fried.

✔ Tapas at la Ventana del Mercado

If you want to have some tapas in the area, we recommend the Ventana del Mercado tavern that overlooks Néstor de la Torre street, but it can be said that it is inside the market building.

Opening hours Central Market of Las Palmas de Gran Canaria

The central market is open from Monday to Saturday from 7:00 a.m. to 2:00 p.m., except for the stores inside that open from 07:00 to 19:00.

Where is the Central Market?

As we indicated, it is close to José Mesa y López shopping avenue, specifically it is on Calle Galicia. Its access is very comfortable by car, as it has its own parking. In any case, it is very well connected with the municipal bus network of the city.
