Carnival in Gran Canaria 2024

The Carnival of Gran Canaria capital city is one of the most important and well-known in Spain. It is held in February and is famous for its parades of comparsas, murgas and galas (such as the Drag or Carnival Queen). The carnival dates back to colonial times and has evolved into an event of great cultural and tourist importance for the city. During the Las Palmas de Gran Canaria Carnival you will have a unique opportunity to experience the city’s entertainment like a local. But please dress up in costume. The most eagerly awaited dates of the Las Palmas de Gran Canaria Carnival are the Drag Queen Gala and the Gran Parade, although there are also other events as we show you soon in the official programme.

2024 PROGRAMME PENDING, THIS IS LAST YEAR’S PROGRAMME

What we can tell you is that Shrove Tuesday in 2024 will be next Tuesday 13th February 2024. So, if the Las Palmas de Gran Canaria City Council follows the usual schedule, the Gala de la Reina will probably be on 10th February 2024, the Gala Drag Queen on Friday 16th February 2024, the Las Palmas de Gran Canaria parade on Saturday 17th February 2024 and the Burial of the Sardine on Sunday 18th February 2024, the last day of the programme as a general rule. It is likely to be on Saturday 17th February 2024 at around 5:00 pm (pending the final schedule). Please note that many streets in the city will be closed on this day, so we recommend not to try to enter or leave Las Palmas de GC from 3:00 pm until 10:00 pm. The best way to get around is by public transport.

On the other hand, if you don’t know where to party in the capital, take a look at our article on nightclubs in Las Palmas. Carnival in the streets has long since been officially “killed off”, but people still go out and party. Also, on the day of the Parade there is a sort of daytime Carnival along the route of the floats.
