Below you will find an index of contents that you will find in this article about campsites and camping in Gran Canaria: prices, services, how to book, etc.
Camping sites in Gran Canaria
Below you will find detailed information about the camping sites in Gran Canaria. This is for tents, caravans and campers. We will also mention beaches where you can camp in Gran Canaria legally (or very close to the sea) and campsites only for tents, campers and/or caravans.
✔️ Tamadaba, wild camping in Gran Canaria
Llanos de la Mimbre, in the Tamadaba Natural Park, is one of our favourite places to camp in Gran Canaria. Why? Because it is one of the best preserved natural environments on the island. It is available for caravans and tents and the services it offers are: water fountain, toilets and security. It does not have a barbecue area and camping is prohibited during fire warnings. Tamadaba also has one of the most beautiful recreational areas in Gran Canaria. You can check our favourites on the blog.
✔️ Las Niñas dam, campsites Gran Canaria
At the Las Niñas dam you also have the option of staying overnight in a tent or in a vehicle. However, the best time to come here is after the rains. Otherwise, the dam will be without water reserves. This is usually between January and May, although with the little rainfall in recent years, it is difficult to give dates. Many visitors bring their paddle surfers or rafts to navigate the dam, something different to do in Gran Canaria. It has security, barbecues, toilets, parking for caravans and tables.
If you want to take advantage of your visit to this place to know the best things to do in Tejeda, we tell you about it in our blog.
✔️ Bailico, campsite in Tejeda
Another of the best-known camping sites in Gran Canaria is Bailico, in Tejeda. It has a parking area for motorhomes and tents. As far as services are concerned, they only have security and no toilets or barbecue area. For this reason, it tends to be less crowded. To come and enjoy yourself, remember to ask for a permit from the Cabildo (see below). From Bailico you can easily visit emblematic places on the island such as Roque Nublo, either on foot or by car.
✔️ Llanos de La Pez, campsite Gran Canaria
A few steps away from Bailico is one of the most legendary camping sites in Gran Canaria and perhaps also one of the most crowded. The services provided are barbecue area, tables, security and toilets. Of course, you can camp in a tent, but not with your campervan. Very close to Llanos de La Pez is El Garañón, a campsite with cabins in Gran Canaria that is one of the best on the island. Well, it’s not really a campsite, as you can only spend the night in their huts. That’s why we don’t list it as such, but we do think you should get to know it.
Remember that all the campsites or camping areas we have mentioned are managed by the Cabildo de Gran Canaria and a permit must be requested in advance. You can see more details in the next lines.
✔️ El Pinillo, Arguineguín, campsite in the south of Gran Canaria
This campsite with swimming pool in Gran Canaria is private and therefore not free of charge. It offers parking for campers and motorhomes from 12€/night + VAT. If you would like electricity, you can connect your car for 1,50€/day. There are also cabins for up to 4 people from 30€/night. If you want to go with your tent, they also have a space for camping with tent.
Map of campsites in Gran Canaria (island government)
Below we show you all the camping sites in Gran Canaria that are managed by the Cabildo de Gran Canaria (island’s government). In addition to those mentioned above, there are four more areas:
- Morro de Santiago, San Bartolomé de Tirajana
- Altos del Pozo, Tejeda (reopened the 28th August 2023)
- Corral de los Juncos, Tejeda
- Llanos del Salado, Tejeda
Sometimes we are asked about camping in Las Palmas de Gran Canaria, but we regret to inform you that there are no areas for camping in the capital. Neither for tents, nor for motorhomes.
How to get the camping permit in Gran Canaria
As we said, you have to apply for a permit to camp in Gran Canaria in the areas authorised by the Cabildo. You can’t just arrive and pitch your tent, mainly for safety and environmental conservation reasons. On the Cabildo’s website you have different ways to reserve your place: online (with or without a digital signature) or in person at the Citizen Information and Assistance Office. If you go in person, remember to bring the necessary documentation to prove your identity and request your PREVIOUS APPOINTMENT beforehand. I am afraid that all of these sites are only available in Spanish.
Then don’t forget to take your booking confirmation with you when you arrive at the campsite and enjoy!
🔥 Traffic light for the use of fire in camping areas
On the other hand, bear in mind the fire risk dates and that, therefore, it will not be possible to camp in areas such as Tamadaba, nor make fires in recreational areas, as is logical.
Camping beaches in Gran Canaria
If you are looking for a combination of sea and nature, there are some beaches where you can camp in Gran Canaria, or rather, very close to them. Please note that camping is not allowed on the sand itself anywhere on the island. There are, however, some beaches where they “turn a blind eye”, although you always run the risk of being fined. In any case, we will only mention the permitted areas.
✔️ Blue Ocean Camp, Gran Canaria campsites with pool
Blue Ocean Camp is a private campsite near Tasartico beach. Although it is not free, it offers all the amenities and is just a short walk from the sea. Unlike the natural spaces we have mentioned, as it is a complex, it is one of the places to camp in Gran Canaria without a permit. Here are its main services and facilities: swimming pool, restaurant, bar, camping pitches for tents and campers or motorhomes, cabins with private bathroom or shared bathroom, WIFI and, in addition, pets are allowed.
Finally, you should know that it is very close to the start of the trail to get to Güigüi beach. Although we haven’t stayed here, it can be a good option for not getting up too early if you want to go to Güigüí.
✔️ Camping Vargas beach, camping with cabins in Gran Canaria
If you want to camp on the beach in Gran Canaria in a legal way, the closest you can get is at the Vargas beach campsite, on the coast of Agüimes. This is a private area and, therefore, another place where you can camp in Gran Canaria without a permit. Here you can camp in a hut in their shelters, but you can also go in your camper or motorhome. The services for motorhomes are:
- Electricity stand
- Grey water emptying
- Water refill
- Space for caravan
Similarly, if you are looking for a campsite in Gran Canaria with cabins, the Vargas campsite has its so-called huts with prices starting at €30 per night.
Finally, within their facilities they have toilets with showers, barbecue area, a restaurant, WIFI, washing machines and dryers. You can see the prices for your next camping holiday in Gran Canaria online very close to this beach in Agüimes below.
✔️ El Pinillo, Arguineguín, Gran Canaria campings
This campsite with swimming pool in Gran Canaria offers parking for campers and motorhomes from 12€/night + VAT. If you would like electricity, you can connect your car for 1,50€/day. There are also cabins for up to 4 people from 30€/night. If you want to bring your own tent, they also have a camping area.
Caravan sites Gran Canaria
If you are looking for a campsite for caravans in Gran Canaria, or as close as possible, we have listed some options below. What we would like you to know is that campsites in the Canary Islands are not over-equipped. They are more like car parks. Likewise, sometimes you won’t be able to relax at all, as the pitches are very close together. However, in general, the “camping culture” is respected and the rest hours are respected. In the following options, you can only stay overnight in a vehicle and not in a tent.
✔️ Camping of Salinetas, Telde
Similarly, very close to Salinetas beach, although in the industrial area, there are also camping pitches for caravans. The price per night is 12 euros. Here there are several services, we list them all below:
- Water filling/emptying
- Showers and toilets
- Kitchen sinks
- WIFI
✔️ Camping El Pagador, Gran Canaria campsites in the north
A few steps from the Charco de San Lorenzo, in the north of the island, you have the option of camping with a van in Gran Canaria with sea views. There are no services here, just a place to leave your camper. The price per night for non-members is 7€.
✔️ Camping Tarajalillo, Aeroclub
This motorhome campsite in Gran Canaria is temporarily closed. We will update the article as soon as they reopen.
✔️ Parking Los Dragos, Tasarte beach camping
On Tasarte beach you can also park your camper just a few steps from the sea, but it is not allowed for huts. They have a grey and black water emptying point, as well as a clean water collection point. They also have WIFI and a foodtruck. The price is 10€/night.
